Snow just keeps on falling having continued right through yesteraday to the present. Overnight though the winds moved around to a more southerly direction and temperatures increased to the warmest we've seen in a couple of weeks. The wind also picked up and there's been a reasonable amount of drifting out there. Currently only Hanazono #3 lift is on wind hold and the Niseko Village Gondola is slowed. Other than that all lifts are running. The snow is likely to be a little heavier than what we've had over the last week or so due to the warmer temps and we should see some settling of the snowpack. The somewhat milder air will last for another 24 hours or so before swinging back around to a northerly. Snow is forecast throughout the outlook with some pretty heavy falls expected tonight.

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu:
Top - 320
Bottom - 180

Niseko Village:
Top - 260
Bottom - 175

Top - 225
Bottom - 170

Avalanche Information:

Intermittent moderate wind and snowfall have made some heavy soft slabs (wind-drifts) to develop on top of Jan 15th (pre-Low snowfall) in steep slopes and cornice/knoll terrain above 800m in leeward western Annupuri area. Avalanche risk is rising today. A developing soft slab transmits stimulations instantaneously and easily triggers a surface slab avalanche. Better not stimulate leeward slopes during a storm. The snow is not quite the same as yesterday’s. Wind-protected Hirafu Gate 4 (Fujiwara) is scheduled to open at 10am, however Gate 2 (Annupuri) and 6 (Moiwa) are yet to be decided. Please respect and follow the ski-patrol’s instructions at the gates as well as in the Muzuno-no-sawa special control area. Hirafu ski-patrol and the groomers team are working on the trail to have the peak ready to go at some stage this week.
Have a nice day.
