Hello and good morning from Niseko.

This morning I can't add any new cm to my reports. There's more like just a dusting and I am hearing a few cm higher up.

Depending on which way you look you'll see some blue sky amongst the clouds or a more uniformly cloudy look. There is even some light snow falling in some places (can see it coming down on the Hanazono cam).

All areas should be open and all gates are scheduled to be opening too.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Mountain Base 6am: -5°, trace of new snow. Moiwa 800m:NE 41deg 2.6m/s, -6.5°, minor snowdrift development. Annupuri 1100m: N 353deg 5.1m/s, -9.5°. Yu no Sawa 1000m: NNE 33deg 6.2m/s, -9.1°. Niseko Village 900m: N 20deg 1.9m/s, -8.2°. Hirafu 1000m : -9.1°. Hanazono 720m:NNW 340deg 3.3m/s, -6.7°. Coastal data: Benkei Cape: ENE 9m/s. Kamui Cape ENE 2m/s, 1008hPa, wave 0.8m.

Cold air with a little snow has flowed into the valley overnight. Around 800m a 3cm crust can be seen, from observation the snow is stable and there is no obvious avalanche risk. All peak gates are expected to be open. Please listen to the patrols advice and be prepared before leaving the resort through the gates. It is strongly recommended that you use a helmet and beacon. This equipment will be compulsory next winter.

Full depth avalanches on valley sidewalls will easily occur as temperatures rise. Do not wait around on these slopes or in the valley bottoms. Cracks are also starting to appear around the mountain. They are about 3m deep and difficult to see from above. If you go in head first it could be very dangerous. Be careful of snow bridges collapsing. Fast flowing water in the creeks is increasing, if you fall in it is very difficult to get back out and there is danger of being washed away. Even though the snow surface in the valley bottoms is smooth best not to ride there. Snow in the trees is crusted this morning, take care until things warm up. Be careful of a sudden change in weather. If the isobars move closer together a storm will pick up on the mountain. Have a good day.
