After the hottest summer ever recorded up this way things have finally started cooling down over the last couple of weeks and the first hints of autumn are starting to colour the landscape. And there's even a possibility of a dusting of snow around the top of Yotei mid next week.

This weekend sees the final events of Niseko Cycle Week which includes a leg of the Tour de Hokkaido. For those not into the riding there's going to be a big BBQ tomorrow with plenty of food and beer and although rain had been forecast earlier in the week it's now looking like the day should remain mostly fine.

Early bookings for the upcoming winter have been very strong so it looks like another busy season ahead. It also looks like this may be the last season some of the current lifts on the mountain will be operating as they will be replaced next summer with more modern lifts. I suspect some are just so damned old that they'd struggle to keep getting insurance to run them! Certainly the costs of some of the older lifts don't make them all that economical to run. This will be a great opportunity to hopefully link things up a lot better and increase the speed and capacity of lifts at the resort. We'll see...

Of course the big question on everyones minds is what's the forecast looking like. Well it's still very early but local folklore maintains that hot summers are usually followed by big winters. As this last summer was the hottest on record here's hoping this coming winter is one of the biggest!
