Conditions this morning allow me to make an early report.

There is some cloud hiding Mt Yotei at the moment but over on our side and above us on the mountain here we have clear blue skies.

You might notice in the Avalance report below the mention of soot and dust making things sticky. The other thing I don't like about that is the discolouratio of the snow. I like my white! But we are being picky.

All should be opening as normal this morning so it should be a beautiful warm spring day.

Fresh snowfall from Monday? It's what some of the forecasts tease us with just now. Does look like it will get colder again at the end of the weekend though we might get some spots of rain on the way.

Something to look forward to.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Niseko base 6am:-2C, no snowfall, bluebird. Moiwa 800m: no data. Annupuri snowpack 340cm. Hirafu 1000m: NE8m/s, -2C, no snowfall. Peak data n/a. Benkei cape NNE6m/s, Kamui cape ENE3m/s, 1019hPa, 0.5m waves.

Clear sky under the high-pressure system, no snowdrift development and snowmelt is expected during the day. A NE wind is forecasted to pick up above 800m later in the day. All gates will open from the morning. Always remember that the area outside the gate is outside the ski resort management; be well prepared and carry the necessary equipments.

Be careful, the snow is very sticky, partly due to soot and dust flying over from China. Spring storms used to carry fine sand from the Gobi desert, making the mountain yellow, however the color turned more black in the last few years. Creeks are swollen and snow-bridges may collapse anytime. Giant climax avalanches do slide all the way through the valley bottom, better stay away from there. Avalanches are natural occurrences and would not be an accident if nobody were involved in there.
