Good morning from Niseko.

It's very foggy this morning with extremely limited visibility on the mountain taking a look at the webcams. Not so much down at base and in town but if you are strapping on the boots this morning you'll need to know where you're going! Don't just follow people who look like they might!

Was feeling a few spots of rain as well coming down when I was out earlier on. Still, just cloud forecast for the day so perhaps the visibility problems (which are early on causing top lifts to not open) will clear this morning.

Sun is expected tomorrow with similar top temperature of about 6 degrees.

We are still looking forward to the prospect of cold and snowfall come Monday.

---

Sorry I didn't mention this before but on March 18th, Hirafu announced the that the lower part of the Super course will be closed to avert danger from a crevice that had appeared apparently in the Super course side of the Ace area.

This has caught up with me as well, though I have mentioned it in my reports before (and below) but.... there are just three more nightas this season - with your last chance for some night skiing and snowboarding this coming Sunday.

---

Resort specific news as of 8:15am - subject to change during the day

Niseko Grand Hirafu:
Top Ace Number 4 and King Number 4 lifts on hold early on due to limited visibility.

Niseko Hanazono:
Set to open as planned by the looks.

Niseko Village:
Top Wonderland lift not opening as planned due to limited visibility.

Niseko Annupuri:
Top Jumbo 4 lift not opening as planned due to limited visibility.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Niseko base 6am: 0C, no snowfall, thick fog. Moiwa 500m: 0C, foggy. Annupuri 1000m snowpack 340cm. Hirafu 1000m: -2C, thick fog. Peak data n/a. Coastal data: Benkei cape SE3m/s, Kamui cape SSW10m/s, 1013hPa, 0.6m waves.

The atmospheric pressure gradient is small and the wind is calm. Heavy fog. Warm air is flowing in and snow will keep melting. All gates will open as the visibility gets better. Please follow the ski patrol’s instructions. Spring climax (ground) avalanche hazard is rising. These slides are triggered from the deeper snowdrift layers. The destructive power of these slides are devastating, running through a very long distance, scraping terrain, rolling boulders and unrooting trees. Accidents can be avoided by being prudent. Mountain conditions are ever-changing. Always be flexible with your plan and adjust them according to the weather. Niseko respect the freedom to ride out of bounds, but is also deeply concerned about everyone’s safety.
