Good morning from Niseko.

It's rather warm but there might be some more snow ahead of us... probably starting as rain later on today.

This morning it is cloudy with foggy conditions being reported by Annupuri and Village.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain base 6am: +5.5℃, cloudy. Moiwa800m: +1.96, E3.9m/s, no snowfall, fog. Annupuri1100m: +1.4℃, WSW4.5m/s, Hirafu1000m: +1.5℃, SSW9.3m/s. Kutchan weather station: +7.0℃, SSW1.3m/s, 96cm snow depth. Benkei cape: calm. Kamui cape; ENE2m/s, 1008hPa, 0.7m waves.

The temperature stayed above freezing level in areas above 800m elevation due to the strong warm air inflow. Thaw will progress drastically and glide avalanches are to be expected in steep slopes above 800m and slopes with cracks. Better stay away from the valley bottom. Block avalanches due to collapsing cornices and expanding cracks are also to be highly expected in area below 700m. The mountain is shifting to Spring, however another cold airmass is forecasted to come in after the low-pressure passes. Another snow storm is expected and surface slab avalanche risk will rise as new snowdrifts develop. Spring low-pressure can suddenly gain energy and generate drastic formation of cornices and snowdrifts.

Today’s snow is sticky and the light is weak. Be careful when riding. Streams are expected to swell. Beware of falling snow-bridges. It is highly recommended to carry a thin rope.
