Yesterday’s snowfall of approximately 15 cms did not continue through the night at the same pace, but has left a nice fresh layer for those wanting to get out early. Overnight we received about another 10cm on top of yesterday's good falls. The sky is clearing and it looks to be a great day on the mountain.

Talking to the locals, this is one of the slower starts to a season here in Niseko. We haven't seen this little December snow since 1997/8 season, which still ended up being a bumper season btw; thats not to say that there isn’t enough snow right now and I’m sure the builders who are tying up loose ends on their projects are appreciative of this. All in all, everyone is happy, especially the first big arrivals of the season last night from Australia.

Chitose airport was closed for a few hours yesterday in the middle of the day but thankfully all flights arrived and guests are now happily carving up the powder albeit a little tired from the extra hours waiting in holding patterns above Hokkaido or being diverted to other airports. Its all been worth it the waiting!

With most lifts open, and the Christmas/New Year rush on its way, fresh tracks are going to be harder to find towards the end of the day and its recommended to look further afield.

The weather is going to stay moderate with no immediate snowfalls on the agenda as a high pressure system sits above Hokkaido for the next couple of days. Hope you’ve got the egg-nog a-brewing, the presents under the tree and the carols playing in the background. Merry Christmas from the Niseko Now team in Hirafu.
