Merry Christmas from Niseko!

Snow continued through much of yesterday getting heavy at times through the afternoon. In the evening though it mostly cleared up and remained mostly fine throughout the night. So not quite as much snow as we were hopeing to wake up to this morning. It is very cold though at around -8 degrees in the village currently after getting just below -10 overnight. It is currently snowing lightly but hopefully it will get heavier throughout the day. The snow that has fallen is excellent quality and there'll definitely be some nice turns to be had out there today.
Once again Merry Christmas to everyone from a very cold and white Niseko.

Avalanche Information:

Mountain base 6am: -11℃, slight overnight snowfall. The wind above 1100m is blowing at about 15m/s SW. Yesterday morning’s humid snow froze due to the following cold temperature and 20cm of relatively dry and light (deeper in east facing slopes) snow deposited on top of that layer during the day yesterday. There are no notable instability factors except in high elevation steep slopes this morning, however depending on how strong the wind & snow pick up today, avalanche hazard may drastically rise. It would be best to carefully follow today’s wind & snow transition. Many avalanches are observed even when bushes aren’t covered. Whether there is a lot of snow or not, avalanches occur if the conditions are right. Under stormy weather, weak/unstable accumulations can form due to a slight change in the direction/strength of the wind for a short period of time. It is strongly recommended to be especially cautious in poor weather conditions. Ride carefully and enjoy your Christmas day.
