Good morning from Niseko.

More sun, blue sky and cloud this morning - and wind.

I need to get my report posted early today so cant wait until 8:30pm to check on opening status; but it looks like top lifts are going to be affected by wind on the mountain at the start of the day. Check before putting on the gear.

It's going to be a mild few days...

Niseko Avalanche Report

Mountain base 6am: +5℃, no snowfall. Moiwa800m: NNW 326°+1.1℃. Annupuri1100m: W 272°12.0m/s, -1.6℃. Yu no sawa1000m: WNW 298°3.4m/s, -1.2℃. Village900m: WNW 292°6.1m/s, -0.5℃. Hirafu1000m: -1.4℃. Hanazono720m: E 87°3.4m/s, +1.3℃. Sea of Japan Benkei cape: WNW14m/s, Kamui cape: SW11m/s, 1016hPa, 1.5m waves.

A strong westerly 20m/s wind is blowing above 800m elevation, although there is no snowfall, snowdrifts and cornices have developed in leeward slopes. The wind is forecasted to calm down in the morning. Thaw will speed up under 600m elevation and glide avalanche will be likely to occur in steep slopes, under chairlift-lines and side-banks. Large scale glide avalanche hazard will also rise in leeward slope at 1100m elevation. Better stay away from bowls’ bottoms and/or steep slopes.

Gate 2 & 3 are scheduled to open. Please respect the patrol’s instructions. Wearing a helmet and a beacon is strongly recommended. Sun light is weak and the slope’s undulations are difficult to see. Prudence is key to avoid accidents. Have a nice day.
