Good morning from Niseko.

I think we did get some spots of rain last night but that didn't last long. It's just over 4C right now and cloudy, with some early morning fog on upper areas of the mountain which should be clearing. The may be some early lift disruption due to that, but as of 8:30am it looks like lifts are planning on being open as scheduled.

Hopefully we will see some sunshine tomorrow morning.

Ni-kabe course at Niseko Grand Hirafu is closed to the general public today due to a junior ski competition being held there.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

6:25am Benkei cape: NE7m/s, Kamui cape: E2m/s, 1-15hPa, 1015hPa, 0.8m waves. Hanazono 1000m: -0.7℃, NNW2.8m/s. Hanazono 720m: 0.9℃, NNW3.0m/s. Moiwa 800m: 1.2℃, N2.8m/s. Annupuri 1100m: -1.1℃, wind data n/a. Yu no Sawa 1100m: -0.7℃, NNE6.5m/s. Mizuno no Sawa top: 0℃, N7.5m/s. Kutchan town: 2.3℃, NNE0.8m/s, no snowfall, 126cm snow depth. Moiwa base: 2℃, no snowfall, weak light.

A weak cold air mass flew in from the north-east and made some thick fog around 600m elevation. The snow has soften up to 1200m, making it difficult to groom. The fog should disappear after 8am. Peak gates should open if the visibility turns better. The rain falling through the cracks has moistened the sasa bamboo, raising the hazard for climax avalanches. It is highly recommended to avoid riding/hiking the valley bottoms. This information is issued for the safety of ski resort users. Avalanche accident prevention is, just like fire, most effective by being precautious. Knowing the cause of the avalanche after the accident occurred is too late. The mountains are a fantastic place to be, but is also a dangerous place. Always be prudent in the wild.

Today’s 108th info is the same number as the 108 Kleshas. Today will surely be a good day.
