The clear weather has given way to overcast here in Niseko, with warming temperatures meaning we'll see a pretty slushy day... corn snow and spring conditions, anyone?

The winds are making life difficult up top, and a lot of lifts are closed, including anything above the Hirafu gondola and most of the lifts in Annupuri and Niseko Village. Make sure to take a look to ensure your favorite runs are going.

The temps today are supposed to get as warm as 10 degrees at the base and it's already supposedly 1C up top. Rain is forecast for later today and tomorrow morning, but that may give way to snow as it cools down over the weekend.

Snow depths:

Grand Hirafu / Hanazono:
Top - 410cm
Bottom - 185cm

Niseko Village:
Top - 440cm
Bottom - 190cm

Top - 475cm
Bottom - 180cm

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Niseko base 6am: +5C, no snowfall in the past 12 hours. Coastal data: WSW5m/s at Benkei cape, SSW25m/s, 1.9m waves and 1005hPa at Kamui cape. Annupuri peak: wind data n/a, -1.7C. Annupuri 1000m: 485cm snowdepth.
Snowfall transition: A low-pressure system is sitting up north and a high-pressure down south. The wind is calm at the base of the mountain, however a strong SW20+m/s wind is blowing above 1100m. Snowfall is small and the temperature is forecasted to rise. Melting will accelerate below 1000m altitude.
Hazard evaluation: Danger of climax avalanche will rise as the temperature rises. Better not ride the valley bottom of the Backbowl and Osawa. The snowpack will be loose and are likely to slide in lower altitude (<800m) steep slopes. Do not enter Haru no taki strictly off limits area. It is highly recommended to remain within the boundaries today. The groomers condition is great this morning.
Gates: Peak gates and No.1 & 8 will be kept closed today. Please don’t duck ropes.
This information is released in order to prevent accidents in the out of bounds area. The resorts are respecting the freedom of skiing as much as possible, but is also deeply concerned about all resort user’s safety. We strongly demand everybody to respect the Niseko Rules.
