Good morning from Niseko. Last weekend of March!

No fresh snow to report to you this morning, but lots of blue sky and sunshine early morning. Some white cloud in places but it looks like it is going to be a fine day in the region with a high of around +3C expected later on.

Not much chance of further snow showing on the forecast. I'll do one of my monthly recaps in one of my reports early in April.

There is now just over one more week left to go at the Niseko HANAZONO and Niseko Village areas; Niseko Grand Hirafu and Niseko Annupuri plan to remain open until 6th May.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain base 6am: -8℃, no snowfall. Moiwa800m: -8.1℃, NW1.22m/s, Annupuri1100m: -9.9℃, W2.1m/s, 250cm snow depth. Hirafu1000m: -8.8℃, NW3.4m/s. Kutchan weather station: -9.4℃, E2.1m/s, 83cm snow depth. Benkei cape: SSW2m/s, Kamui cape: WSW8m/s, 1019hPa, 0.7m waves.

The mountain and the ocean is calm under a dominating high-pressure system. There are no notable development of snowdrift and the overall avalanche risk is low except for the glide avalanche hazards. All gates are scheduled to open. Listen to the ski patrol and be well prepared before stepping out of bounds. Outside the gates is not the resort and many hazards are present out there. Always be prudent in the backcountry. Do not stay put at the bottom of the valley and stay away from cornices and cracks unless you’re willing to hurt yourself. Cracks are not visible from above. Have a great day.
