Well, it is pretty bleak at the moment. No new snowfall last night and warm temperatures this morning. It's definitely a day off day here (if you have the luxury of choice of course!) We are expecting some snow later this afternoon and into the night - hopefully it will be enough that the crust underneath will not be much of an issue. Still lots of fun to be had, but it's spring-style.

It's always a good kind of day to get out and check out the island. If you can rent a car or find a way around, there is a lot to see.

If you decide to go out into the backcountry, the north facing slopes may still have some good snow. It's generally safe out there, I would just keep a heads up on cornices and wet slide prone areas.

The forecast is still open-ended. It's supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow pretty heavily, but today was also supposed to be a snowy one. The forecasters in Japan have one of the most difficult jobs out there. Hopefully, we get the snow they are looking at!

Hazard Evaluation: Are Likely to Occur Avalanches Mar from a st five or th .. Layers The Snow and Wind is seen to Pick Up and Surface slab avalanche today from Risk Will Rise Drastically in South Leeward Slopes Facing Deeper Layer Around 1000m as it Does Avalanches risk is also rising as the temperature rises; better not remain in the bottom of the valleys where avalanches run through.
Gates: Peak gates are scheduled to open, please follow the ski patrol's instructions. Traversing all the way to the back of Higashione from gate 5 will only make ignorant people do the same and increase the chances of accidents to happen Voluntary restraint from guides for would be highly appreciated using this route. Beware of sudden weather changes and Have a Safe day.
