Good news is it's snowing out there, bad news is that there hasn't been all that much yet and it's getting pretty windy up there. The avi report is saying around 10cm overnight but in Hirafu I'd put it closer to 5cm. A low pressure system is developing up in the Sea of Okhotsk and will deepen over the coming days directing a strong NW airstream over Hokkaido. It will get considerably colder than it has been over the last few days and we should see snow continue for much of the week. So we should see conditions improve throughout the week. Some of the upper lifts today will be on wind hold.

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu:
Top - 380
Bottom - 200

Niseko Village:
Top - 380
Bottom - 200

Annupuri:
Top - 310
Bottom - 220

Avalanche Information:

According to current weather data and snow observation, newly formed snowdrifts are developing above 800m elevations due to the moderate westerly wind & snow. Developing snowdrifts are yet to settle, and are likely to trigger a surface slab avalanche with a slight skiing simulation. Many of the avalanche related accidents happen during or just after storms. Carefully choose your touring route. The gates opening is yet decided, please respect the ski-patrol’s decision. Refrain from ducking ropes, as one track left under the rope may lead many others to do the same and eventually lead to an accident.
Coastal data: WNW15m/s. Annupuri peak 6am: average WNW11.2m/s, -10.7℃. 10cm of overnight snowfall at the base of the mountain. A hoar layer will probably form between Feb 6th and 7th layer, which may potentially turn into a weak layer underneath future snowfalls. Do not vandalize the anemometer at the peak.
