Snow and weather reports posted on Thursday 23rd January 2020
Tuesday 10th December 2019, 6:52am
This morning is mild and currently -3c with temperatures to rise to +3c during the day. The cloud cover is low and it is moderately windy in the village. In the morning there may be some snow flurries and then in the evening rain will set in and continue overnight. Tomorrow's temperatures will also be above freezing. While the weather may no be the best over the next couple of days, the actual snow on the resort is in great condition and there is plenty of enjoyment to be had on the slopes.
It isn't as cold this morning, still under zero for the moment but that will change as the sun warms things up.
We are due these clearer skies until at least tomorrow with a chance of some fresh snow the day after.
Operations remain unchanged as we wait for that new snow.
Official snow depth (as reported by resort):
- Upper: 150cm - Lower: 80cm
Lifts, courses & tree run info:
- Gondola lift operating - All main courses open - Tree runs not open yet Read more ...

Mostly clear blue skies
As expected, it's going to be mild today and tomorrow too, perhaps a little warmer tomorrow than it will get today. Both days we can expect temps at base areas to be around 6-7C, more than that down in the village and town areas. The roads will not be icy!
OK so we wait for fresh snow and the forecast still shows the chance of that happening on Thursday. It doesn't look like it's going to be continuing for long so we can't really expect a huge dump to really get things going.
For now, the three resorts remain part open.
Grandeco Snow Resort:
- Number 1 lift and Gondola are operating - 3000m of course available - Rainbow 3500 (upper area) - Lavender B - Connecting to Center course
- B and C lifts operating
Hoshino Resorts Nekoma:
- Forest 3 course open
Opening information - subject to change of course depending on weather/snow conditions.
Well, I sure had an enjoyable morning yesterday! We enjoyed some beautiful blue skies and sunshine. I just love that contrast between the blue and white. (The snow was really good yesterday, but even on days when snow conditions aren't 'peak', I always feel that kind of weather makes up for it).
It feels mild this morning (high of around 4C, possibly slightly higher today?) and there's no new fresh snowfall to report. It is a cloudy start to the day and rather grey and moody looking. The top half of Mt Yotei is shrouded in cloud. It sounded quite windy early morning though didn't feel particularly so when I was out before with a light southerly.
I would expect more variable snow conditions today.
Tomorrow is also going to be mild but we can expect colder temperatures to make a comeback from Thursday, hopefully bringing with it fresh snow (and probably some wind too).
Niseko Avalanche Report
Moiwa base 6am: +3℃, no snowfall, light rain. Coastal wind data: Benkei cape S 5m/s, Kamui cape S 18m/s, 1015hPa, 1.1m waves. Annupuri weather data not available.
A low pressure system is advancing on the Sea of Japan, making warm southerly wind flowing in. Snow is melting below 700m elevation and is forecasted to remain the same until the 11th.
This Information is issued for accident prevention in the out of bounds area. Niseko area, where the most avalanche related accidents occurred in the past, is working with an original and unique procedure for preventing accidents. Most avalanche accidents are triggered by human-related stimulation on drastically developing snowdrifts and the hazard level becomes highest in leeward steep slopes during snowstorms.
Access gates are yet to be set and stepping out of the resort boundaries is still prohibited at this stage. Please respect the Niseko Rules.
The snow condition today is tricky. Catchy snow and low light makes is difficult to navigate through the variable conditions. Beware not to injure yourself at the start of the season. Good snow will come eventually. Have a safe day.
The Avalanche Info will be suspended from today for a short while.
Official snow depth (reported by resort): - Peak: 90cm - Base: 60cm
Ski lifts operating: - Niseko Gondola - Upper Village Gondola - Village Express - Community Chair - Banzai Chair
Night time operations are available in the Niseko Grand Hirafu, Niseko Village and Niseko Annupuri resort areas from Wednesday 11th December 2019. There is no nighta at the Niseko HANAZONO resort area. Read more ...

Clear and sunny
Good morning from Yuzawa.
Clear blue skies and sunshine this morning.
Today and tomorrow are going to be... warm. Perhaps as warm as around 12C in town during the day.
We're still hoping for snow on Thursday when temps will start to get lower and more like what we expect.
Kagura is currently part open:
- Mitsumata Ropeway (8:00am-5:00pm, last one up a 3:30pm) - Mitsumata Number 1 quad (8:00am-4:00pm) - Mitsumata Number 2 romance pair (8:30am-4:30pm) - Kagura Gondola (8:15am-4:00pm, last one up at 3:00pm) - Kagura Number 1 quad (8:30am-3:30pm)
- Main course (1500m) - Panorama course (700m) - Family course (1,100m) - Gondola course (4,000m)
Naeba is also part open with the lower base course area available.
Fantastic weather yesterday and probably a similar kind of thing going on today. Early on the sun is out and there's blue skies.
It's actually kind of cold, but it will be warming up quite quickly this morning. As expected, warmer conditions forecast for both today and tomorrow, getting close to and perhaps beyond 10C at base and in the village.
Come Thursday morning things should be getting more winter-like once again. That day is expected to remain colder with the chance of fresh snowfall.
It looks like there's some kind of mechanical issue with the Line C quad lift at Hakuba 47 early morning.
While that lift isn't moving, I presume you'll need to get up top via the Hakuba Goryu gondola. They still have their top Line E lift moving, but you can't get up there via 47 lifts...

Good morning everyone.
The sun is out. There's blue skies all around. It's a beautiful morning.
Rather mild and the same is due tomorrow too.
There is snowfall due around Thursday as colder conditions return, but will it be enough to open as planned on Saturday? I feel that is going to be a stretch, but I will bring you any news that I have from the resort in the lead up to the weekend. No official word on current thinking just yet.
For the moment, it really is a great day to be able to get out and enjoy this beautiful area.

Fine, blue skies, sunshine
There's not much to report from here in Naeba really, other than the fine weather and mild conditions.
The snow that was surrounding the open base course is gradually melting away exposing ground to us once again. No doubt with warmer conditions today and tomorrow that will continue.
I am hoping for another coating of white goodness on Thursday........
Naeba is part open:
- Number 5 high speed lift (8:00am until 5:00pm) - Number 4 romance pair lift (8:00am until 5:00pm) - The lower base slopes between those lifts are open with a fairly narrow course of natural + artificial snow Read more ...
