Snow and weather reports posted on Friday 24th May 2019
Sunday 10th February 2019, 7:01am
There has been just a dusting of new snow overnight but the weather this morning is perfect. It is partly cloudy to the east, but over the resort is perfect deep blue sky. With no wind present it is going to be a great morning on the slopes, however the temperatures are very cold again so best to put on an extra layer. There is the possibility of snow from around midday.

Geto Kogen Now!
Sunday 10th February 2019, 7:40am
Fine day forecast
Good morning from Geto.
8cm of fresh on the ground this morning.
Yesterday it was snowing in the morning, clearing up by later on in the day. And it looks like we should have a fine day today with some sunshine forecast and a glimpse of it early on.
Back to some snow tomorrow!
Official snow depths:
* Top: 370cm * Base: 250cm
Planned operating lifts - subject to change due to weather:
* Number 1 Gondola * Number 2 Gondola * Number 1 pair lift * Number 2 pair lift * Quad
* The Number 2 Gondola is normally rested on weekdays
Courses & Tree Runs - subject to change due to weather:
* All of the main official courses are available * All tree runs open
It's cold. But there is a bit of sun due today but perhaps some sprinkling of snow too with more coming on tomorrow.
Zao is really rather busy at the moment; there have been some long queues at times, especially for the Ropeway up to the top of the mountain. Cunning planning recommended (and a good talk with your accommodation on the best strategy). I would say an early start is always a good idea.
Lots of visitors from overseas too and of course that has been especially so this week with the Chinese New Year holidays.
We are also in the middle of the long 3-day weekend, with tomorrow being a national holiday.
In the Uwanodai area: Daily until 3rd March 2019 Friday 8th March until Sunday 10th March 2019 Saturday 16th March 2019
In the Yokokura area: Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday between until 10th March 2019

Aizu Bandai Now!
Sunday 10th February 2019, 7:59am
8cm of fresh snow has measured at the base of Grandeco this morning and likely more than that higher up on the mountain.
The weather as of 8am is light snow in the Urabandai area (north of Mt. Bandai) area and just cloudy to the south of Mt. Bandai. Better snow here in the north this morning.
It's fairly cold and so conditions should keep pretty decent.
All ski resort will be busy today due to it being the middle day of the long weekend.
The photos for today are from Grandeco (the first) and Alts Bandai.

Good morning from the Niseko area.
Another 11cm of quality fresh snowfall to add to my reports this morning.
And it's another very, very cold morning with regular snowfall is still expected over the coming week.
Things are good. :)
And that's all for today. I will see you tomorrow.
Niseko Avalanche Report:
Mountain Base 6.00am: -12°, 5cm new snow in the last 12hrs, calm. Moiwa 800m: -13.7°, W6.4m/s, minor cornice and snowdrift development, good visibility. Mikaeri Weather Station: snowdrift development. Annupuri 1120m: snow depth 230cm, 1150m: -16°. Mizuno no Sawa: -15.85°, NNW6m/s, 11cm new snow in last 24hrs. Hirafu Peak: -18°, NNW10/ms, good visibility. Kutchan Weather Station:- 14.3°, ENE0.8m/s, snow depth 182cm. Cape Benkei: N9m/s, Cape Kamui: N3m/s, pressure 1021hPa, wave 0.8m.
Currently light winds of about 10m/s with no significant snow drift development, even above 800m. Snow fall is less than 20cm in the last 24hrs and from observation the avalanche risk is low. Cornice development from dawn is easily fracturing, be careful on cornice slopes. The snow above 800m is mostly reset and all gates are expected to be open. Please listen to the patrols advice and be prepared before going out the gates. Outside the gates is not the ski resort, following other's tracks can lead you astray, always know your current position.
There was an accident on the north slope of Higashi One yesterday, ski patrol and the Kutchan Fire Department were involved in the rescue. Hirafu Patrol would like to convey their appreciation to the Fire Department for their assistance. Avalanches are not the only danger in the winter mountains, many other hazards exist outside the ski resorts. Always take cautious actions. Snow is really good now, be careful of a sudden weather change

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Sunday 10th February 2019, 8:34am
And yes it is going to be a very good early morning. Lots of fresh snow - 30-40cm of it being reported by the resort at least that lower number down below being measured by myself. Nice. And it's still snowing (though just cloud seems to be what is on the forecast for later in the day).
It is keeping cold, currently -4C down at base and -10C up top so wrap up well before heading out.
Tomorrow is a national holiday in Japan and so it will be busier than a normal Monday. It seems we might be enjoying a bit of sunshine in the morning.

Some really big snow flakes coming down at quite the pace when I was out there measuring just a bit earlier. I measured 38cm; the resort is reporting 30cm of fresh snowfall this morning.
Not sure how long it will last today as it's due to ease but for now it's adding cm pretty quickly... and there's fresh on the groomers.
Be prepared for cold conditions as well as the snow coming down.
Yes, it is a good morning. Though not one for scenery - visibility is very limited right now.
It's the middle day of the long weekend. Forecasts seem to be pointing towards some sunshine in the morning which should be nice for those here for the weekend. As long as it keeps cold, some sun will be welcomed.

Good morning from Yuzawa.
Good news! A decent amount of fresh snowfall since yesterday, mostly overnight.
Maiko are reporting 20cm overnight and Kagura are reporting 30cm. We have measured and just wiped 28cm off our measuring point this morning. (Didn't do that yesterday so that is from yesterday morning). Kagura are reporting some moderate wind higher up but for the moment all appears to be open as normal.
It is still snowing, though expected to ease off. Currently -3C so it feels nice and cold.
We might even get some sunshine in the morning tomorrow and there's more snow due in the upcoming week.

Hello from Hakuba on this 'middle day of the long weekend' Sunday morning.
I was up at 47 yesterday afternoon and it was snowing lightly. Quite busy but found some fine pockets of powder that were untouched.
I think we were kind of expecting a bit more overnight. Sounds like there was a bit of wind blowing snow around, perhaps that goes some way to explaining different numbers. Or perhaps there was just more in the northern areas (Cortina and Norikura) as is sometimes the case. I think that some serious hands on investigation might be required, because I feel there's going to be more out there. Someone has to do it, so go on... I volunteer!
Light snow falling at the moment in places, but also some sun shining through clouds in places too so a mixed bag of conditions early on.
There's snow potential on the forecast over the coming week, the first decent amount due perhaps overnight tomorrow night.
But in the meantime it should be a good morning. Perhaps see some of you out there.

It is very cold.
It's not due to continue for the whole day, perhaps cloudy or even clearing somewhat this afternoon. And there's more due over the coming week, so we're in pretty good shape at the moment.

Gray and snow
Way more snow than expected today, and it keeps coming.
Light, powdery snow (probably the best of the season). Lots of people out to enjoy it, too, with the parking lots filling up, and the access roads clogged with cars unprepared for the worst (don't put your chains on only when you come to a stop... Might want to get those on early, city folk!).
Pretty good winds, too, so lots of blowing and drifting snow. As I've noted, my spot for measuring snow depth is pretty well sheltered, so I stand by today's big numbers, even when the ski areas don't add on as much. The total snowpack figure is really close to what they have; what falls in a day will of course settle a lot, but if you're skiing, you've got a lot of depth to play with today!
In fact, with more international travelers now renting cars, it's just gotten worse. I refuse to apologize to the idiot who decided it would be OK to block the exit to the bus turnaround at Ikenotaira this morning so he could go over to the rental shop. I hollered that he was blocking buses (and me), and he said I should be polite... Just wait until the local bus drivers "inform" you of your poor decision (you won't understand them, but you'll know they're not at all polite). Follow local rules folks! People do stuff for good reasons, and sometimes that means you have to be like everyone else and park and then walk to the rental shop. Especially when deep, blowing snow means it's really tough just to be driving around. Don't need additional roadblocks by blockheads.
