Cloud & Blue skies
Another cold one in Minakami. Everyone was out in force snow clearing yesterday and the water was pumping out everywhere. The roads are icy this morning so take care if you are driving. Tenjin managed to get open yesterday, though again only one lift. Masses of snow up there. There was a small dusting overnight and this morning. The forecast is for snow on and off for the next few days.
This snow looks as if it had done the job for Houdaigi who look set to open on Saturday.
Houdaigi - Dec 15 Norn - Dec 20 Minakami Kogen - Dec 22 Okutone - Dec 21
More snow has fallen since yesterday. I have had to move about 20cm off the top of the car last night and there's another 10cm or so on there this morning. The snow has eased off now and we have a curious mix of weather in the region. A look at the webcams shows quite clear and sunny conditions in Naeba with a lot of blue sky, with some of that blue sky over Kagura as well and the sun shining down on the main slope. It's still cloudy over the main Yuzawa town area though at the moment.
Actually the forecast tells us to expect cloud and light snow, so we'll have to see whether that happens or whether the clouds are indeed clearing up.
We do seem to be moving on from this considerable snowfall we have had over the last few days though. There's a nice amount of snow hanging around the town area now which is great to see. All good for more resort areas opening up this coming weekend. Read more ...

Sunny, with some dark clouds coming over the mountain (yea)
Countdown to Opening: Snow Day Three
Actually, the big snow stopped last night, and it's a really nice day in Myoko. Nice, except that we can't go out and ply at the ski areas yet. We have a great pre-season base here, though; the snow is supposed to keep going which should make things really good for the openings.... which are:
Akakura Kanko (Akakan) December 15
Akakura Onsen December 15
Ikenotaira December 15
Suginohara December 15
Seki Onsen As soon as possible
Kyukamura Myoko Run Run (pronounced "roon roon"; had to write this one out because it's such a huge name for a tiny report) December 22
Myoko Ski Park December 16
Tangram December 21
Madarao Pre-open last weekend (opening properly on Saturday)
Another 10cm or so of snow to report since last night and add another 10cm on top of that and we probably have had 20cm since my report yesterday. It certainly has been a good weekend and start to the week.
With the sun out this morning, it should be pretty excellent conditions out there for the lucky ones sliding. Yes the sun is out we have a few white fluffy clouds hanging about it everywhere looks amazing and I'm sure the snow is top quality this morning. Doesn't look busy either.
Kagura open as planned today. The same lower lifts at Naeba open but I would hope that we will soon be seeing more of Naeba opening soon.
Light snow is actually forecast for today and so it will either turn up later or the forecast have got it wrong. I'll let you know which of those happens in my report tomorrow morning!

Yesterday was a fine day out there. I had some deep fun anyway. I have heard a few comments from people saying the snow was perhaps slightly heavier than we are used to in optimal conditions here, and that was probably about right... but I think we are very spoilt here in Niseko with snow conditions. It was pretty fantastic by any standards if you ask me! The thought of things getting even better... :)
It was snowing as well and we have had another 40cm of fresh snow to add to the tally which has to be around 3m now for the season. Calendar check... December 11th. Oh yes!
Blue skies above me this morning as I write the report. There is some cloud here and there but generally clear and everywhere looking great. It is currently about 0C. Some winds are hanging around but we seem to be moving out of the storm now amnd over the next few days we might see more clearer skies and a break in the snowfall.
At Hirafu, the Swinging Monkey lift got off to a late start this morning, but opened just before 10am. The Kind Number 3 Triple lift has been operating at slow speed but other than that operations seem to be normal there, while the Hanazono No3 quad lift in the Hanazono area is also operating on slow.
At the Niseko Village resort area, the Niseko Gondola has been operating at slow speed, and over at Annupuri their Gondola is still not moving today.

Hello from Hakuba and apologies for the later report today.
We had another 3-5cm of snow earlier on this morning in the village and about 20cm above 1200m, aand it continues to snow this lunchtime.
It has been a cold morning and even now remains at just around -3C degrees, there is no wind and the snow is nice and dry snow - and so is the air.
We are expecting snow to continue through the day perhaps into tomorrow but after that things should be easing off somewhat and we might get to see some sun.
For now, excellent conditions to enjoy out there.

The heavy snowfall has eased off somewhat today and we have had perhaps 10cm or so up on Yamabiko since yesterday and just slight snowfalls lower down. Nice conditions this morning as the snow clouds have for the most part moved on and actually there is quite a bit of blue sky up there and the sun shining down on the runs.
Not busy at all either so very nice conditions for the people making their way out there. The forecast tells us to expect more snow by the end of the day though and into tomorrow, though likely not as much as it was snowing over the weekend.

Shiga Kogen Now!
Tuesday 11th December 2012, 13:00pm
Cloud, light snow
A bit of a later report today - I was down in town and saying hello to the 'snow monkeys' at Jigokudani. They were all huddled together in the hot spring and looking very relaxed as well. They must love it in winter when it's cold and they can just jump in there!
Back to Shiga Kogen and this morning the winds are calmer and the snow has eased somewhat and we have a few more lifts running again. Even a bit of blue sky at times as well. Just a small amount of new snow to report this morning.
You couldn't ask for a more perfect day with blue skies spanning all over the valley and affording sensational views to the Tokachi mountains. The slopes are in excellent condition after substantial snow falls at the weekend and cold temperatures are maintaing the quality of the powder. From today the Prince lift in the Furano Zone will be open for night skiing until 8pm, so get on out there tonight to celebrate the first night skiing of the season and you should be rewarded with some wonderful views of the night lights across Furano city. Cloud, light snow, breaks at times
And it's another 20cm or so this morning. It has been a good few days in this part of the world as we have been on the receiving end of a very nice amount of fresh, light snow. This afternoon it's generally just cloudy and even some breaks in the cloud and a quick glimpse of the sun for short times though there remains a good chance of snowfall on and off over the next few days - nothing major though probably. After that looks like the skies might clear up a bit later in the week and it will not be as cold.
We have more snowfall but for now lift operations remain the same but we should certainly see almost all of the runs at Zao Onsen resort operating from this coming Saturday, 15th December.
A good start to the season!
Today the following lifts are operating around the mountain:
Zao Ropeway Chuo Ropeway Sky Cable Chuo No1 Utopia No1 Paradise AB Onsen No1 Yokokura No1
