Clear and sunny
An early report today and a rather easy one.
Yesterday the snowfall eased off late in the morning and by darkness arrived there was quite a lot of clear sky above the region. It got really quite cold as well actually. Frost on the car outside, and apparently temperatures down to -8C overnight.
They are going to rise to around +9 today as things warm up once again. Early on the sun is out and lots of blue skies. We are going to have a lovely clear day here and tomorrow should be similar - and warmer.

And up it is this morning. Or it will be anyway once the sun takes control of proceedings.
An absolutely amazing blue sky morning at Madarao this morning. Bluer than a bluebird.
About -2C at the moment.
That's about all there is to report this morning. It should be a fine spring day on the mountain.
Similar likely tomorrow too.

All the local reports aren't in yet, but I'm off to enjoy this perfectly bluebird day (yes, I've said I prefer a day of heavy snow - but it is March! What are you going to do?).
Time for a climb, I think; there's probably some good snow on north faces. And with possible heavy rain on the schedule for tomorrow, too, it's time to act today.
OK, with only two of the resorts having submitted reports, here's the word: current temperature is about -1°C at the base of Akakan; no fresh snow, the wind is light from the west.
Operations and official snow depths (all from 3/11)
The skies are clear and it's going to be a day for the cameras today.
A cold start to the day and down to around -9 degrees in the village. It should be quickly warming up though and a high of around +11 degrees is forecast for around lunchtime. That's some jump. As I write this it's about -2 degrees as the mercury continues to rise.
So, clear blue skies and just a slight wind. All is calm in Hakuba.
It won't get as cold tonight and tomorrow looks like we're going to get rained on, though hopefully higher up it will be cold enough for the mountains to get some snow. A bit of a cold period around Thursday to be followed by warmer temperatures again from Friday and clear conditions forecast for the coming weekend.
Official snow depths and operations @ Tuesday 12th March 2013 AM:
After that short blast of winter yesterday, it looks like we are going to be back into spring mode today here in Shiga Kogen.
Early on the sun is out and it's blue skies above the entire region. The thermometer is already breaking into the positive numbers and it should be a mild day. Almost perfect spring day.
It was fun to get to play in that fresh snow yesterday and things being very quiet now there was lots of untouched areas to be found even later on in the day. Probably this morning too though I would expect it to be a bit icy early on, conditions will soften up as things warm up.
Tomorrow the forecast is for similar weather conditions in the area.
Nighta operations planned for tonight at the following resort areas: Ichinose Family
Official resort snow depths as of Tuesday 12th March 2013 AM:
The sun has definitely got his (or her) hat on this morning and seems very happy to be shining down on us and quickly beginning to warm us up.
Was actually cold last night and overnight, but it will quickly warm today and we expect temps to rise to about 6 degrees at both Naeba and Kagura.
The runs should be fast this morning. Remember where your brakes are.
So, blue skies, bluebird, lovely spring day. Let's enjoying.

Sunny blue skies
Mentioned beautiful spring days yesterday, and this morning is certainly one of them.
After a cold night, we're set to warm up again today. Blue skies all around and a bit of a spring wind with a forecast high temperature of +11 degrees c later on early afternoon. Tonight it will not cool down anywhere near as much as it did last night, and tomorrow should be another day or similar conditions in Minakami.
What a day we have in Nozawa Onsen today. The weather does not get much better than this! Unless like it it snowing, of course.
Looking out the window at the moment you will see bright full blue skies with not a cloud to be seen. The trees are standing dead still with not a breath of wind. To top it all off the powder snow is in pristine shape with cold overnight temperatures. I think it is safe to say that it will be an excellent day of skiing and boarding here today.
Yesterday moderate snow showers continued until the early afternoon when the clouds parted to be replaced by sunshine and partly cloudy conditions. Moderate winds eased and became light during the afternoon.
Crowd levels were exceptionally low, typical for March weekdays in Nozawa. It was and is still easily possible to find pockets of untracked fresh even in the most obvious locations yesterday afternoon and today; such as the Yamabiko area and beside groomed runs. Off piste an icy base riddled with death cookies was menacing but this should improve today as the snow settles.
Expect bluebird conditions to continue for the remainder of today before some unstable weather moves over the region tomorrow.
Rain is a possibility during the day but by late afternoon, it will hopefully turn to snow. We then expect the chance of a good sized dump overnight Wednesday. Thursday will be a good day with light passing snow showers before clearing during the late afternoon. From Friday onwards we should see a run of cool clear day accompanied by light winds. Perfect spring weather.

Just a few cm of new snowfall to report this morning and feeling milder than the same time yesterday. At the moment it is borderline 0 degrees and light snow is falling, wet variety. Hopefully we will avoid it getting too... wet.
It's due to be falling on and off today, and snow tomorrow too - hopefully a bit colder as well.
Moderate wind this morning and stronger higher up with top lifts again not moving this morning and a few others running at reduced speed. The Gondola at Hirafu was delayed a bit but doing it's thing now.

Peak gates will be closed today due to the strong winds above 1000m. Because of the ability for many people to enter the Niseko backcountry by ski lift, the decision whether or not to open gates is made conservatively through objective hazard evaluation to minimize danger for all users.
According to data and observation the general avalanche risk is lower than yesterday. However above 900m, from the 9th Mar pre-low pressure layer, there is danger of avalanche on leeward slopes and knolls. Take care not to trigger cornices and knolls.
The snow in the trees is not bad today but visibility not good. Be careful of cracks and holes. Gates other than 2 and 3 may open if conditions allow. Please respect ski patrols decision. Ducking ropes is a serious offence. Read more ...
