Weather conditions: Thin cloud, bright and sun at times
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 130cm
PLEASE NOTE:
Some of our Now daily reports on Monday 14th March may appear much later than normal due to some maintenance work. Apologies in advance.

---

Hello from Zao.

No new snow to report this morning and generally thin clouds up there this morning and a temperature just under zero as I write this. The sun is breaking through the clouds though and so it's bright.

The local forecast shows the chance of snow falling tonight and perhaps at times tomorrow as well. I wouldn't expect much and think of anything now as a bonus. After tomorrow there isn't any snow on the weekly forecast; rather things warming up from mid week through into next weekend.

Niseko Now!

Sunday 13th March 2016, 8:34am
Weather conditions: Cloud, blue sky
New snowfall: 5cm
Snow depth: 160cm
PLEASE NOTE:
Some of our Now daily reports on Monday 14th March may appear much later than normal due to some maintenance work. Apologies in advance.

---

Hello from Niseko on this Sunday morning.

5cm more snow to report this morning - this is snow that fell yesterday. There were some spells of clearer conditions after that and we enjoyed a clear evening and a very cold night so no further snow overnight.

This morning we woke to a mix of cloud and clearer skies. After that cold night it is a chilly start to the day and thankfully it doesn't feel like it's going to be warming up just yet... sometime later in the week.

For the next few days we can expect a mix of sunshine, cloud and perhaps occasional snow flurries (or hopefully a bit more than flurries if we are lucky).

Just a bit of news from Niseko Grand Hirafu where a few small sections are going to be closed today due to some events being held - 'Technical Prize Test' and 'One Coin Time Challenge', apparently! Areas to watch out for the part closures are the Furiko Course, part of Jumbo Course by the Swinging Monkey lift and part of the Boyo Course. They'll be back open to the public just as soon as the events are finished.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Niseko base 6.00am: -10°C, no new snow, calm. Moiwa 838m: -8.1°C, WSW2.8m/s, no new snow. Annupuri: -11°C, W5m/s. Annupuri 1000m: snowpack 300cm. Hirafu Ridgeline: -11°C, light winds, sunny. Coastal data: Benkei Cape:SSW4m/s. Kamui Cape S9m/s, 1024hPa, wave 0.8m.

Mountain base has cooled overnight under clear sky. Currently we are under influence of high pressure system and the mountains and seas are calm. From observation the general avalanche risk is low. The 12th Mar layer is still on the surface of the snow pack and will become a notable layer in the future snow pack. Peak west ridge, Kozan no sawa sidewall(backbowl), many cracks are appearing around 1100m on south side.

This winter snowdrifts are very thick and with temperature fluctuations there is high probability that full depth avalanches will occur on south facing slopes earlier than usual this year. In Niseko these avalanches do not only happen on warm days, they are similar to glacial avalanches and can happen anytime.
Full depth avalanches happen very quickly and travel a great speed. They have a devastating impact on the valley below clearing rocks and trees over long distances. Do not ride in the valley bottom , this is the avalanche course. All peak gates are expected to be open. Snow is still good, but yesterdays tracks are still there. Have a good day.

Hakuba Now!

Sunday 13th March 2016, 8:49am
Weather conditions: Mostly overcast and cloudy, bit of blue sky
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 120cm
PLEASE NOTE:
Some of our Now daily reports on Monday 14th March may appear much later than normal due to some maintenance work. Apologies in advance.

---

Good morning from Hakuba.

We enjoyed generally fine weather yesterday - it was a mix of cloud and blue skies and sunshine, though it seemed to keep chilly through the day even with the sunshine.

This morning there's a mostly overcast cloudy feel going on at the moment with some blue sky to be seen in places, but less than yesterday. Perhaps we will get some more sunshine during the day and it is forecast to be a bit warmer today.

We can perhaps look forward to some snowfall tonight and into tomorrow morning, though as has so often been the case this season different forecasts are showing quite different stories - so let's just wait and see what nature brings.

Once we get to around Wednesday though we can expect temperatures to start rising further...

News from Tsugaike Kogen is that the Tsugaike Ropeway (which goes beyond the top of the 'resort') is now operating. It only opens for the 'spring season' and it seems that it started up from yesterday and will run through until 8th May - well, that is the plan. The Ropeway plans to run every 30 minutes from 8am until 3pm and costs 740 yen for adults and 360 yen for young children... note that this Ropeway is not included in the normal 1 day lift ticket for Tsugaike Kogen, it's an extra. You also need to sign the climbing notification to go up there.

Naeba Now!

Sunday 13th March 2016, 8:56am
Weather conditions: There's a relatively thick fog just above the base area today.
New snowfall: 1cm
Snow depth: 110cm
Good morning from Naeba everybody.

We're off to a cloudy start today with potential for snow looking strong later on today as foretasted. Again yesterday whilst it did snow for most of the day it didn't really accumulate to anything more than a cm. So whilst pistes will be refreshed they're definitely not powdery.

We have two events going on in Naeba today. By high speed lift No.5 it's possible to try out snow scooters today free of charge. Also by the top of gondola number 1 you can try out a pair of black crow skis for free.

Weather going on is looking like we'll have small amounts of snow until Tuesday and then clear weather for the rest of the week after.

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Sunday 13th March 2016, 9:09am
Weather conditions: Mostly cloudy, bit of sunshine
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 45cm
PLEASE NOTE:
Some of our Now daily reports on Monday 14th March may appear much later than normal due to some maintenance work. Apologies in advance.

---

Good morning from Nozawa.

It has been a generally cloudy start to the day so far, bit it's quite bright and the sun is out in places too. Cloud is what is on the forecast as well with a high of around 4C or 5C expected in the village later on in the day. It should be getting cold again tonight though and there's a chance of snow to look forward to overnight and perhaps at times tomorrow as well. Let's see!

Once we get into the middle of the coming week forecasts warn of warmer conditions and lots of sunshine so it might be getting to full-on spring conditions by the end of the week.

If you are planning to visit this week and want better snow conditions, earlier is probably the best choice.

Still complete snow cover on most areas of the mountain.

Down by base over at the Karasawa area, there's quite a bit of ground showing through now - if we don't get lots of snow to fill it over that's going to be drying up pretty quick now I would imagine. One of the great things about Nozawa of course is the vertical we have with a big difference between top and bottom (1085m).

New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 100cm
PLEASE NOTE:
Some of our Now daily reports on Monday 14th March may appear much later than normal due to some maintenance work. Apologies in advance.

---

Good morning from Madarao where the day has started slightly overcast but keeping quite cold. There's been a bit of sun breaking through the cloud at times as well. A nice morning.

No new snowfall to report but the cold is helping us at the moment. There's a chance according to the forecasts that we may get some fresh snowfall as well tonight so that's something to look forward to especially if you are planning on being here on Monday.

Clearer skies, sunshine and warmer conditions are due from around Wednesday as the freezing level shoots back up beyond the top of the mountain and very probably it'll start to feel very spring once again.

Here's to a bit of snow tonight!

Enjoy your Sunday.

Yuzawa Now!

Sunday 13th March 2016, 9:10am
Weather conditions: Thin cloud, overcast but bright
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 90cm
PLEASE NOTE:
Some of our Now daily reports on Monday 14th March may appear much later than normal due to some maintenance work. Apologies in advance.

Morning from Yuzawa.

It was generally a fine day weather wise yesterday and in the afternoon there was even a bit of light snow falling though it didn't stick or anything followed by a bit of sleet/rain/snow higher up last night. I see this morning Kagura are reporting 'about 1cm'!

It's nice and bright this morning with the sun shining down at the moment, but it's generally silver skies rather than blue.

Temperatures today are forecast to rise to around 6C here in town.

Could we even get a bit of snow on the ground before tomorrow morning? It looks like there is a chance of that happening as well as some light snow at times tomorrow.

Once we get to Wednesday things are going to start warming up further. Should be fine and sunny days Wednesday and Thursday in particular with temperatures warming up to possible double figures. Whether we'll get any more taste of 'winter' after that, we'll just have to see.

---

Resort official snow depths (Sunday 13th March 2016) and any specific news at time of writing:

After some very warm conditions recently, there are some patches of ground on view on some lower slopes around town now. Southern facing slopes are generally more affected. Some courses at resorts are closed due to the snow situation - best to check with the individual resorts for their up-to-date details. Snow cover remains good higher up and is not a problem.

Grandeco Now!

Sunday 13th March 2016, 9:34am
Weather conditions: Cloudy, some blue sky
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 210cm
Good morning from Grandeco.

There was just a slight dusting of snow last night but not enough to record any new cm.

The courses are this morning covered by some light snow and the temperatures are keeping low, so the conditions should be keeping pretty decent.

According to the forecast, the next snow fall will be Tuesday but I wouldn't expect much with warmer conditions expected beyond Wednesday.

The weather has changed to Spring in recent days, so we can only hope now to get more fresh snowfall.

The roads are completely dry, but snow tires are better just in case.

Ski resorts to the south area of Mt. Bandai will probably be ending the season around 25th March. Grandeco and Nekoma ski resorts will continue through until able to - just when that will be this year remains to be seen.

Appi Kogen Now!

Sunday 13th March 2016, 10:15am
Weather conditions: Sunny
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 130cm
Sunny Appi Sunday.

It’s a beautiful sunny Sunday morning here at Appi. We’d rather have the snow but if you want to take pictures today is the day with great vistas available from the top of the mountain. Use the main gondola and head up to the peak. Walk over to the Yamabato run and just before you get there there’s a big sign with all the runs on it. Just to the right is a set of stairs. Make sure you go all the way up to the top though and you’ll get a 360 degree panorama shot like nothing else. Ok photo tips finished lets get back to the real stuff.

Yesterday made for sunny skies most of the day with light and variable winds at the base. No snow but a good day to be out there and LOTS of people. Conditions were as planned with an icy topcoat turning into slushy conditions at the base. The higher elevations managed to stay somewhat frozen.

Today brings sunny skies and relatively cold temperatures of around -10 on the summit. Conditions should remain the same most of the day with the clouds rolling in late this afternoon and there may, just may, be snow tonight. In fact we may see 6-7cm of it. Wouldn’t that be great !! Temperatures will remain steady for the next few days too but we’ll see an increase in winds on Tuesday. Don’t ask me what next weekends forecast is going to be because I think you know the answer already and I’m trying to avoid bad news today so I’ll get to that next week some time.

Enjoy the sun, enjoy the slopes and get out there. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

Furano Now!

Sunday 13th March 2016, 10:33am
Weather conditions: Bluebird
New snowfall: 1cm
Snow depth: 190cm
It is a perfect Sunday with clear views over the town through to Mt Tokachi in the distance. The slopes are nicely groomed with a little powder on top and a frosty base under that. The base should soften late morning as the sun is out in full force. Ungroomed areas have some lovely light dry powder on them which is pretty amazing considering it is nearly mid March. Tomorrow's forecast is pretty much the same as today's with perhaps slightly warmer temperatures.   Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Sunday 13th March 2016, 10:56am
Weather conditions: Light overcast, sun is shining through
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 165cm
It's a day of indirect sunlight today; there's a thin, high cloud layer that isn't totally obscuring the sun, so there's a whole lot of melting going on out there.

At base level the snow is going down fast, with pretty serious tree wells developing as well. At least we have a little reprieve on the upcoming rise on the freezing line; looks like it will be later in the week than originally forecast (still means that some rain is likely by the end of the week).

There hasn't been much change in the official snow level reports from the resorts. Can't really blame them, but the levels obviously are going down. Still some good skiing out there, though!
