A quick report this morning to keep a record of the latest sprinkling of snow on the top of Mt Yotei yesterday morning.
There was a nice covering on the top of the mountain there and with the good surrounding weather conditions it made a fine sight. Temperatures are continuing to drop and the word 'samui' (cold) is part of the daily conversation now - temperatures will probably be struggling to reach double digits this coming week.
Reminding us all that we need to keep pressing on with the preparations for the coming season. As if we needed to reminding of course!
It's been over five months since the end of last season, and we are at last enjoying a bit of autumn here in Nozawa.
It was cooler high on the mountain of course but another hot summer down in the valleys, and it continued into October as well really with the heat lingering for quite a while this year. I'm glad to say that it has cooled down nicely now though and today it may not reach 20 degrees. Overnight we were down to around 10 degrees. Colder conditions are likely tomorrow as well along with some heavy rain forecast, but once that is cleared we should have a run of fine, comfortable weather conditions.
Locals are busy busy preparing for the coming winter season. It's a time of anticipation, excitement, last minute panics (for some!), and lots of other emotions in the mix.
We will be posting further updates over the coming weeks as the 13/14 winter season approaches in Nozawa. And then of course we will be with you daily once the lifts get moving.
