Myoko Now!

Monday 16th February 2009, 6:50am
Weather conditions: Snow clouds brooding
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Major amounts of snow are forecasted for this afternoon, but not until a fair bit of rain falls. If the temps drop during the morning with the winter pattern pulling in, the 7m an hour pile rate slated for this afternoon will be nothing but rain washing the snow away. Fog this morning presently.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Monday 16th February 2009, 8:52am
Weather conditions: Snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday the temperature continued to drop through the afternoon and the winds increased in intensity shutting down most of the lifts on the mountain. Overnight there have been moderate and at times heavy falls of snow. This morning it is still snowing and strong winds are persisting up high. You don't have to be any sort of avalanche expert to understand that a whole lot of new snow on an icy base is going mean high risk of avalanches and that is exactly what we've got and ski patrol are unlikely to open any gates today. Higher lifts are also unlikely to operate due to the continuing strong winds. Off-piste down lower there should be some great powder turns to be had though they are unlikely to be bottomless just yet, maybe by the end of today if the snow keeps up.
It's very cold this morning and wind chill factors up high will be significant so beware of frostbite on exposed skin.
Cold temps and snow is expected to continue throughout the week. On Friday another low pressure system will approach from the west and initially it will get a little milder before colder weather and further heavy snowfalls return over the weekend.

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu:
Top - 320cm
Bottom - 145cm

Niseko Village:
Top - 330cm
Bottom - 160cm

Annupuri:
Top - 360cm
Bottom - 190cm

Hakuba Now!

Monday 16th February 2009, 9:13am
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Hakuba is currently sitting under cloudy skies with light snow flurries coming in from the NW. The temperature should remain below zero today and the snow is expected to continue through the day and into the night. The upper slopes of the resorts reported 15cm of new snow overnight which is definitely will help improve conditions on-hill. Rain in the valley over the past few days has made lower slopes a bit thin in terms of base coverage but still skiers and boarders can go from top to bottom. If the cold front moves in and deposits any snow at all we will all be very happy... keep sliding!

Official resort snow depths on 16th Feb 09:

Yuzawa Now!

Monday 16th February 2009, 9:15am
Weather conditions: Wet snow, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday did I say snow by the end of today? Sadly, it didn't happen and earlier this morning things were looking quite wet but just before it started snowing - albeit wet snow - and is continuing to do so now. It's about 2 degrees at the moment and the latest forecast has cloud for the day followed by snow tonight. With the forecasts being quite unreliable of late and it currently snowing, who knows what it will turn out to be today.

I'll update the page a bit later on today with the latest snow depths and news.....   Read more ...

Furano Now!

Monday 16th February 2009, 9:47am
Weather conditions: Partly cloudy, sun breaking through.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Once the snow started yesterday, it snowed on and off through most of the day. We'll call the total tally approximately 8 cm, and then last night we had 5 cm more.

It's nice and cold, so the new snow is light and dry.

Supposedly, 8 cm of snow is forecast for today, but right now the sun is breaking through, so it remains to be seen how things will pan out.

Think Snow. Think Powder.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Monday 16th February 2009, 10:38am
Weather conditions: Snowing
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Finally the snow has returned to Nozawa! It is currently 1 degree in the village and -4 degrees up on Yamabiko. The snow depth has remained constant at 175cm and 120cm for Yamabiko and Uenodaira respectively. The snow only started to fall this morning so no new snow is reported but it is falling quite heavily in the village and more so up the top. Consequently visibility is not great.

Yesterday was clear and sunny but not too warm so the snow pack did not suffer too much.

The precipitation is forecast to continue for the rest of this week, with snow predicted even at village level except for Thursday night when warmer temperatures will bring heavy rain to the lower slopes. It will still be snowing up the top so Yamabiko will be the place to be.

All lifts are expected to operate today.

All courses will be open except Kurokura and Hachiman.   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Monday 16th February 2009, 13:04pm
Weather conditions: white snowy sky
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A complete change today, not the anticipated snow fall from last night - but things definitely look like a freshly shaken snow globe if you look out of the window.

We have white skies and strong winds with snow in the air - nothing worthy of reporting as far as centimeters are concerned though.

All gondolas are in operation at Naeba whilst it looks like wind is affecting the Kagura operations today.
