Snow and weather reports posted on Monday 17th February 2020
Wednesday 17th April 2013, 8:26am
The day has started off with some light rain falling and fog on the mountain early on. It is farily calm as well at the moment though stronger winds may be with us a bit later on in the day. The forecast for the day is just cloudy and so hopefully it will clear up and we'll be left with better visibility.
Perhaps similar conditions tomorrow with borderline rain or snow at times.

Today has started off sunny, though the forecast is telling us to expect clouds to move in as we get into the afternoon and the day might well end up being quite dull.
It only dipped down to around +8 degrees overnight and as of 9am it is already about 15 degrees. A high of 19 or 20 is forecast for the day, so it feels warm.
Even though the snow has all but gone from the valley and lower mountain areas, there's still a lot up on the open places at Kagura and Gala. Kagura still reporting over 3m of snow. Conditions are as you would expect them to be at this stage.
Official resort snow depths @ Wednesday 17th April 2013, AM:

17th April and this morning is probably the warmest of the year so far. It was already over 10 degrees at 8am this morning in the village and about 4 degrees at the top of the resort as well.
A cloudy start to the day and while it isn't at the moment it kind of looks and feels like rain. And rain is on the forecast for later in the day. There's a moderate wind this morning.
Look for it to get a bit chillier from tomorrow for a few days.
Weekdays now it's the Chuo and Utopia runs only open.
The following lifts plan to remain open through until 6th May:
All the Ropeways Chuo Number 1 Pair AB (every day) Chuo Number 2 Pair AB (20th/21st April and 27th April until 6th May) Katakai Triple (20th/21st April, 27th-29th April, 3rd-6th May) Paradise Pair AB (20th/21st April and 27th April until 6th May) The Yokokura Number 1 Pair AB will remain open as long as there's enough snow.
The weather can't seem to make up its mind between spring and winter at the moment. Yet again there has been a dusting of new snow through the village. Today skies are grey and there is some wind as well - it looks and feels wintery again. With the slightly colder temperatures over night, and lack of sun beating down on the snow, the slopes will be faster today. Read more ...

Fine, some cloud, hazy
A lunchtime report from Hakuba and it has been a fine but fairly overcast and hazy kind of morning here. The sun was out up on Hakuba Goryu when I was up there earlier on and some nice blue skies to be seen behind that always impressive looking mountain backdrop.
Warm too. Once again temps have risen to 20 degrees and beyond this lunchtime down at base, and at the same time up at 1400m on Happo-one it is nearly 15 degrees.
There has hardly been any wind around this morning so it's a feel good day, and tomorrow we will likely be seeing similar conditions in Hakuba again.

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Wednesday 17th April 2013, 13:02pm
Perhaps more sun tomorrow we said - the day started off nice and as I write this report it's fairly bright down at base and in the village areas but up where you can ski it's cloudy and looks like thick fog as well - visibility is poor up there at the moment.
It's been a warm morning and rose to around 17 degrees by early afternoon.
The forecast for tomorrow is more of the same, perhaps it won't cloud over up top...
Close on empty ski lifts and runs this week.
