Yuzawa Now!

Tuesday 17th March 2015, 7:16am
Weather conditions: Clear and sunny
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 225cm
It's another sunny morning here in Yuzawa with light (to deeper) blue skies all around early on.

There's an early morning chill, but it's going to quickly warm up more than yesterday to what are being said on the news as 'mid-April' kind of levels today - might get up to 15 degrees this afternoon, and more of the same tomorrow too.

---

Added below, and present on the reports from today, are the planned closing dates for resorts in Yuzawa and neighbouring Minamiuonuma.

All subject to change of course.

NASPA Ski Garden has of course already extended it's season by two weekends -- might there possibly be other extensions? None that I have heard of at this time but if we do hear we will of course post in this report.

I have to post a very early report this morning, so the resort information below is not updated for today - will get that refreshed tomorrow.

It's an easy report though thankfully - clear, blue skies, sunny, warm, spring. That about sums it all up.

Some fantastic views to be had today for sure and as I just read in another report a feel good factor to help us get used to the spring-ness of it all.

Temperatures easily getting into double digits over the next few days, with rain still expected around Thursday...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Tuesday 17th March 2015, 8:43am
Weather conditions: Bluebird
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 250cm
The sun is out; we have blue skies above us; and it's warming up. As expected of course.

More tomorrow, but we might be on for some rain or even snow if we are lucky as it gets a bit colder going into the end of the week.

---

The different ski areas of Shiga Kogen have announced details of when they plan to be open - and when they plan to be closed - this spring time, and I have added those details below in the report. As always, it gets quite complicated with a number of areas closing for weekdays and then re-opening on weekends and then for the Golden Week period into early May --- but I think I have got the details all correct!

I will keep these details in the report every day from now and update as necessary. I have taken out the snow depth numbers as they were making the page very long and as the resorts hardly ever update them I thought they might not be needed any more.

Furano Now!

Tuesday 17th March 2015, 9:00am
Weather conditions: Cloud cover/overcast
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 220cm
High clouds loom over the resort so it looks like we will not see the sun today, or at least not in the morning. Temperatures are pretty mild and the onset of spring is evidenced by the footpaths and roads around the village that have cleared themselves of snow over the last few days. There is a light breeze on the mountain, but given the warm temperatures this is most welcome as it will provide some cooling. Through to Sunday conditions are forecast to be calm with little or no wind, a mix of sun and cloud, and similar temperatures to today. Some ligth snow is expected Friday afternoon.   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Sunny
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 230cm
It's warming up already this morning after a mild overnight with the sun out and once again blue skies above us.

A lovely spring day with snow conditions as you might expect. Still, there sure is lots of it around!

Warmth will probably continue through Thursday which should see rain and then temperatures hopefully dropping a bit. I think a return to proper winter like conditions is asking too much though!

Niseko Now!

Tuesday 17th March 2015, 10:05am
Weather conditions: Cloudy
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 480cm
After what ended up being a fine day yesterday this morning starts off with lots of cloud over the mountain.

It's going to be a particularly warm day today - up to around +7 degrees around base perhaps? - and there's a southerly wind messing about with top lifts again I'm afraid.

Tomorrow should be more sunny. A chance of some precipitation overnight but forecasts argue over whether it will be rain or snow, perhaps a bit of both on lowe and upper areas. We'll see.

Generally milder conditions are forecast to continue through until the end of the week.

---

Resort specific news as of 10:00am - subject to change during the day

Niseko Grand Hirafu:
Top Ace 4 and King 4 lifts on hold.

Niseko Hanazono:

Niseko Avalanche Report

Niseko base 6am: +2C, no snowfall. Moiwa 800m: no data. Annupuri 1000m snowpack 340cm. Hirafu 1000m: SW10m/s, -2C, strong wind and poor visibility. Peak data n/a. Benkei cape SSW4m/s, Kamui cape SSW17m/s, 1013hPa, 1.2m waves.

A small low-pressure system is passing across the Mamiya strait, and a strong southerly wind is blowing temporarily and warm air is flowing in. Snow will melt and climax (ground) avalanche hazard will rise in cliff & steep slopes around 500m. Many holes are hidden under new snow in the valley bottoms. The creeks underneath are swollen and can easily drown people. Beware!! Massive climax avalanche hazard is rising in 1100m area. Keep some height from the bottom of the valley when traversing out. All gates are expected to open. The Niseko Rules are here to protect the freedom to ride out of bounds, and mutual trust between the users and the resort is key. However the rising number of thoughtless people and/or people disregarding the Rules are endangering the situation. The Niseko Rules have been implemented based on past bitter experiences, we strongly demand all people to understand and respect them.

Weather conditions: Really clear; none of yestreday's high clouds

No question about it; spring has arrived in Myoko.

Still a lot of snow on the ground, but it is warm, it is bright—actually, it would be a great day to get our and enjoy skiing, hiking, a picnic on the snow....

Happy not to see rain today; there was a big ice ring around the sun two days ago, which made us think the rain would be in earlier rather than later, but things are good so far. Still looks likely for tomorrow, but tomorrow is of course another day...
