It's a cloudy and overcast start to the day here in Yuzawa. Yesterday was fine with some blue skies, but happily the temperatures over the last few days haven't been too high, usually somewhere between 15 and 20 degrees. The evenings are nice and cool as well at the moment.
It looks like it will rain tomorrow and a good chance of rain again on Friday and the first part of the weekend. We'll update the page on Friday with the latest for the weekend.
About the Iwappara webcam images that are displayed on this page (below). In season they are fixed to show the slopes of the resort and updated every 10 minutes or so, but when the resort closes they often post pictures from different areas of Iwappara, and even at times parts of Yuzawa town and the area. So the images are not currently being updated every 10 minutes as they are in season -- they are just showing you recent images of Yuzawa. Read more ...

Amazing weather this week with clear skies and temps rising up to te low 20's. It almost feels like summer. The frst typhoon of the season look set to hit southern Japan by the end of the week. Regardless of the warmth there is still a continuous snow cover above about 400m with drifts of snow persisting throughout the village. The guy next door has actually spent the last 2 days with his snow blower attempting to remove the massive drift at the rear of his place. His grassy BBQ area probably wouldn't have been clear of snow until well into June if he hadn't done all this work. I can't imagine anywhere else in the northern hemisphere that would still have so much snow to such low levels. The road over the Annupuri Range to Iwanai remains closed because of avalanche fears. I've been hoping this would open because it allows easy access to many backcountry peaks. Anyway I'm off to Australia for a couple of weeks holiday on Friday so there won't be any further reports till I get back. Read more ...
