Mixed feelings about this morning outside with the sun shining outside. It does give us a good look at the cover of snow that has fallen over the last few days. Up on the mountain there looks to be a solid blanket of snow even down from mid mountain. The village still has a few centimetres on the ground that is softening as the morning edges along. On the weather map a Low pressure system has formed over us at 1000hp and is expected to intensify in the next 24 hours. Behind it is a High of 1040hp so the set up looks good for more snow and cold temperatures particularly on Sunday evening and into Monday. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Saturday 17th November 2007, 11:09am
What a difference a few weeks makes in the mountains - it is getting cold up in Nozawa Onsen.
Most places would not get so excited about that but in a ski town it is just what we want. There have already been a few falls of snow and the top of the mountain, the Yamabiko Slopes, are covered in the white stuff this morning.
It is forecast to snow again tomorrow night and the temps will drop to -2 degrees and be cold until the 21st of November. So we're hoping Santa may come early this year!
It's a beautiful morning in Naeba and the official start of the season. No real snow to see but the 400m long course opened earlier this morning and there's some skiers and boarders out there now getting their first turns of the season.
