Nozawa Onsen Now!

Sunday 18th January 2004, 8:55am
Weather conditions: Cloud, fog
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
No new snow overnight but the quality of the snow remains very good. All the powder is gone by now but the groomies are fun too.

Currently it is quite foggy in the village and on the bottom slopes. Visibility is better in the upper area and we hope to get some sunshine later today.

There is still some confusion concerning the Kandahar slopes. They are going to open the west course from January 19th to 22nd and February 15th to 17th. The slopes will be open for skiers only!
As I mentioned in a report a few days ago, I was in told that the east course will be openend too, when there is enough snow. Well, I don't think it's not opened due to lack of snow.

There is a new kids-park at Hikage.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Sunday 18th January 2004, 9:27am
Weather conditions: Sun and cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Again only a dusting of new snow overnight, with sunny skies this morning. A slight North-westerly wind has brought colder temperatures, with the thermometer plunging to -18C overnight. Conditions are currently more pleasant, reading -6C at the bottom of the lifts and -14C at the top. A neck warmer is recommended.

Most areas within the resort are tracked, so the pick is fast and smooth groomer runs. Hanazono remains least crowded. The peak once again offers fantastic views from Yotei all the way around to Iwanai and the Sea of Japan. Turns in this backcountry area are deep and steep, but avalanche awareness is recommended.   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Sun, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Reports from the slopes yesterday were mostly very good, with people going to Kagura, Naeba, Kandatsu and Iwappara all reporting good snow conditions - especially in the morning. (Some good powder up at Kagura being a high point!)

The clouds of yesterday have for the most part moved to make way for a sunny morning. Temperatures still low, so the snow conditions remain very good.    Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Sunday 18th January 2004, 17:32pm
Weather conditions: Clear but not so warm
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A very clear but not so mild day here today. We didn't get any snow overnight in the end, and the runs will be riding hard and fast with great views of the mountains.

The Double Black Diamond Club is being held at Tsugaike again this year, so sign up if you want to ride some trees with the resorts' blessing.

Intermittent snow and sub-zero temps are forecast for the coming week. On Thursday and Friday, it's Hakuba Thanks Day, so lift tickets are half-price.
