It looks like a perfect day today. The ski area is shining in the sun against a background of pure blue sky with not a cloud in sight. Overnight temperatures remained below freezing. Later today Furano Ski Area will make a decision whether tomorrow as planned. Rain is forecast for tonight through to tommorrow morning and tommorrow's temperatures look like they will be unseasonably warm. Read more ...

Fine clear conditions, some cloud
That first lot of snow down to the village in Niseko a few days ago proved to be very exciting for most people around here, as you can imagine.
We may have seen enough snow up there for some people to want to get out and slide down, but of course the lifts at the ski resorts are not actually moving yet (see below for official opening dates). That didn't stop a few people from hiking up the mountain and getting in their first turns of the season... can't be bad!
Things have warmed up somewhat since that cold winter snap and this morning there are some fine blue skies to enjoy - though the snow is still sitting pretty there for now on the slopes. In the village it has pretty much dried up on roads and sidewalks, though in untouched places there is still 5-10cm or so on the ground.
We are due some warmer still conditions tomorrow - double digit temperatures in the village? - and rain is likely. Hopefully that will quickly turn into snowfall on Sunday and Monday. That's what the current forecast is saying anyway!
Below are the official planned resort opening dates again, they remain as follows:
Today we have seen the sun but there has been a fair bit of cloud mingling up there in the mountains, but generally a fine day with temperatures creeping up into double digit territory in the village. The snow line has retreated back up a bit but that was expected.
Tomorrow is also set to reach about 13 degrees down at village level and we will very likely be getting rainy wet conditions... even high up as well. Not to fear though as the forecast for later on Sunday into Monday is much more positive and there should be more snow. We'll just have to wait and see how far down it will fall. Read more ...
