Nozawa Onsen Now!

Monday 19th January 2004, 8:09am
Weather conditions: Fog, Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Again no new snow overnight, but the snow condition should be quite good (yesterday it was perfect!).

At the moment it is very foggy in the village and on the bottom slopes. Visibility is better in the upper area.

Kandahar west course is open for skiers only from today until January 22nd! So if you have a chance to come to Nozawa this week, do it, because otherwise you have to wait until February for the next opportunity to ski down Kandahar!

For those of you planning ahead of time: a Jazz Festival will be held in Nozawa on February 7th in the evening (it starts at 7 p.m.) Call 0269-85-2068 for tickets (1500 Yen per person). Last year's Jazz in Nozawa was really great!   Read more ...

Clouds moved back in yesterday, but no snowfall overnight. It's a cloudy and mild morning - about 3 degrees currently - and even though the forecast was a good chance of snow this morning, that seems unlikely.

Iwappara are celebrating 70 years this year and from Jan 26th - 1st Feb, an adult one-day ticket will be 3500 yen to celebrate.   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Weather conditions: Light snow, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Good weekend? The snow up here at Shiga was great. We're still on less snow than usual for this time of year but the quality is good.

After a (for the most part) fine weekend, this morning light snow is falling. But it looks like it will clear up and isn't anything major at all.

Relatively mild temperatures in the region as well today.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Monday 19th January 2004, 12:46pm
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
After a cold and clear night, the clouds have moved in as a preface to an afternoon of much-needed snow. The forecast is for snow all week, which will be greatly appreciated by those who are a bit wearied of skiing in others' tracks.

The overcast skies have increased the temperature slightly; -5C at the bottom of the lifts and -13C at the top. Visibility on the top runs continues to decline as the snow approaches. A good day to work in some fast GS turns on the groomers before heading into the trees tomorrow morning.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Monday 19th January 2004, 13:36pm
Weather conditions: Snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Happo reported 20cm of fresh first thing today, right down to the car park. It looks like the resorts further up the valley got the same, while Goryu are claiming 10cm. Here, closer in the center of the valley, we've had 10-15cm since last night, and it's still coming down gently.

Since most visitors went home yesterday, there are plenty of tracks to be had.   Read more ...
