After three days of sun, big snows have returned for the morning and early afternoon. The Nagano side is also getting its fair share of the precipitation. Togakushi is getting a good bit, after over a week of sparse amounts; just in time for their winter hanabi festival tonight. Definitely the pick of the day.
Your Myoko area levels for today: 400cm (Akakura Kanko Resort); 390cm (Akakura Onsen); 275cm (Ikenotaira); 445cm on top, 245cm on the bottom (Suginohara); 430cm (Kyukamura); 230cm (Pine Valley); 620cm (Seki Onsen)!!!; 250cm (Madarao Tangram Ski Circus); 260cm (Madarao Sympathique); 270cm (Madarao Kogen); 380cm (Myoko Ski Park); 200cm (Togakushi); 250cm (Kurohime); 185cm (Iizuna); 170cm (Iizuna Kogen)
Yesterday was a good day on the slopes with perfect blue skies all day long. It was very warm during the day, with heavy snow everywhere on the mountain. Even for a clear night last night didn't have the usual bite to it. When we awoke this morning there was a sprinkling of snow on the ground, but I suspect it was preceded by rain.
The forecast is for snow to continue today and then clear up tomorrow with more light snow forecast for early next week.
It was warm yesterday. There was a lot of melting going on.
The snow on the hill was heavy and you could really sense the change of seasons. The official numbers only show a marginal drop in snow levels but that doesn't seem to add up to observations. Either way, there is still a deep cover of snow across the mountain and fresh snowfalls have arrived today, albeit not quite as heavy as one might hope for. If this snow keeps up overnight we could have some decent, deep soft snow by the morning.
After a warm day of sun yesterday the wind and snow has returned today. There is currently 10cm of fresh snow at the valley level with it expected to continue through to midnight tonight. This should bring an estimated total of 25cm of fresh snow to the valley.
Although there are moderate gusts of wind today and visibility is not great, all lifts are working at all fields today. The wind is expected to ease by tomorrow morning with a cloudy day forecast,
Backcountry Advisory The very warm temperatures of yesterday turned most of the snow on South faces into slush by yesterday afternoon, but there are still some stashes of powder (heavy) to be found at higher altitudes on North faces. Many South faces are loaded up from recent snow and wind with avalanche danger in the Alpine still at considerable.

Serious blizzard conditions have kicked up here in Myoko, with high winds and copious amounts of snow. Take caution when coming to the area today, but when this blows over excellent conditions should remain: a very dry, February-like powder is whipping around right now:)
The pick of the day: Hard to do during a snow storm, but here goes. If you just HAVE to ski today, then try the more leeward resorts as the winds will be weaker: i.e. Iizuna (I can't believe I just picked Iizuna as the pick-of-the-day) or Madarao Sympathique. Normally, I wouldn't pick these as the terrain and quality are somewhat minimal, but they aren't facing windward as much as the others, so there may be a higher sfety factor.
Your Myoko area levels for today: 270cm (Akakura Kanko Resort); 260cm (Akakura Onsen); 155cm (Ikenotaira); 200cm on the bottom (Suginohara); 290cm (Kyukamura); 520cm!(Seki Onsen); 150cm (Madarao Tangram Ski Circus); 155cm (Madarao Sympathique); 155cm (Madarao Kogen); 250cm (Myoko Ski Park); 145cm (Togakushi); 155cm (Kurohime); 110cm (Iizuna Resort) Read more ...
