New snow to report this morning!

Just when people thought it was all over, the best part of 10cm or so of fresh snow in the village base area this morning - and no doubt a bit more up top too. The resort has added 3cm to the upper snow depth as a result.

Still light snow falling early on now and it's hovering around 0 degrees at the moment. Not too windy too and so the lifts are operating as planned so it seems.

Good morning to get out there, and amazing when you remember the date and see well over 4m reported by the resort!

Yesterday it kept colder and it's a fairly chilly start to the day again here in Hakuba this morning. A cloudy start as well and not likely to warm up too much - a high of about 9 or 10 degrees later on perhaps?

It should be cold overnight too and it might be sleet/snow even down to village level... will let you know tomorrow morning.

In resort news, you can still ski down to base at Hakuba 47, but the lower skiable slope is getting narrow... and the lower part of R7 is now closed.

Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: 1cm
Snow depth: 145cm
Snow on the ground this morning; not a lot, but it did hint at the pretty cold temperatures today (the woodstove has been put back into service). A little windy at times, but the lifts are going at Akakan and Seki, and there's still plenty of snow on the ground.

The spring backcountry season also officially kicked-off with the opening of Koya Ike Hut, at the base of Mt. Hiuchi.

Saturday 20th April 2013, 12:10pm
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: 20cm
Snow depth: 205cm
How about some new snow? 20cm sound good?

Yep, 20cm of new snowfall is being reported by Tenjindaira resort today and snow falling as well - and snow down to the base of the resort as well on the roads... it almost feels like we are back to winter in parts of Minakami today.

From Monday 22nd until Friday 26th April, the popular pair lift just to the right of the top Ropeway station that takes you to the highest point of the resort will be closed. Keep in mind if you plan to be visiting...   Read more ...

Furano Now!

Saturday 20th April 2013, 12:51pm
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: 1cm
Snow depth: 150cm
We got another round of snow this morning as winter continues to linger in Furano. Even so, the snowpack on the bottom of the mountain has taken a hit this week. You can still ski all the way to the foot of the resort, but Prince Romance Lift and Furano Downhill #1 Highspeed Lift have been officially retired for the rest of the season, which runs for a few more weeks until May 6th. The upper half of the resort is still going strong with a 150cm base, so no worries for those of you who have yet to get in your late-season skiing.

Temperatures dipped bit below freezing overnight but have risen gently throughout the morning. It's currently 4 degrees Celsius with a light breeze coming out of the south, southeast. It's been snowing off and on, and there's a chance that could mix with a little rain, so be sure to dress appropriately when out on the mountain!

The forecast for tomorrow calls for warmer temperatures with afternoon highs in the upper single digits and rain towards the latter half of the day.
