Geto Kogen Now!
Wednesday 20th February 2019, 7:51am
There's not really a whole lot to report to you this morning.
Yesterday was cloudy, clearing up by lunchtime and the afternoon and this morning is again starting off with cloudy skies. Perhaps some chance of snow? It's relatively mild so we need to keep an eye on that. Keep cold please.
Fine/cloudy is what is on the forecast for tomorrow as of now.
Official snow depths:
* Top: 395cm * Base: 270cm
Planned operating lifts - subject to change due to weather:
* Number 1 Gondola * Number 1 pair lift * Number 2 pair lift * Quad
- The Number 2 Gondola is usually rested on normal weekdays
Courses & Tree Runs - subject to change due to weather:
* All of the main official courses are available * All tree runs open
It's funny. I had to be away yesterday so I wasn't around to see if it rained or not yesterday. I hear it did in the afternoon/evening, even though some people insist that it didn't. I give up with some people. Take your pick! ;) And I am sorry that I wasn't here to see with my own eyes, I only just got back to Nozawa 30 minutes ago...
Anyway this morning the webcams show severely limited visibility - can you see your hand - on the upper slopes. Not so bad around base.
A high of around +5C expected today and perhaps we can get a bit of snow tonight with tomorrow set to be colder. Come on!!

The rain most certainly arrived and it fell for about 6 hours so a proper soaking. Last night the snow was still soft outside but we will see today as the rain started up again here early this morning and is still gently falling.
I am not holding my breath but it's apparently stopped 5km down the road in Yubiso and a friend sent a photo with patches of blue sky.
Weather forecast is calling for snow showers this afternoon and this evening. Last week snow showers meant 30-40cm minimum on the mountain. After the last rain event, the forecast snow we received came in pretty small. Let's hope the spiggots are open this time. Read more ...

Morning from Yuzawa.
Not the most fun thing to report this morning with light rain falling, continuing on from some rain yesterday. It's all a bit drizzly and wet.
Temperatures should drop later in the day though and perhaps we will be getting snowed on again tonight and into tomorrow morning. That would be nice.
For the moment the forecast is showing clearer skies and sunshine for Friday.

Lots of cloud yesterday with some blue skies once again in the morning at times.
It's a cloudy and calm morning with what looks like limited visibility on the slopes at the start of the day. And there's just a dusting of snow to report - I am able to add 1cm to this report. Any fresh snow is good to see of course, but 1cm is hardly going to make much of a difference on the slopes.
It is going to be a mild day and it feels very much so early on. We might well get another dusting tonight but sun is forecast for tomorrow and the forecasts are still showing mostly fine weather (as in sun) rather than snow.
Welcome back Ace Family Quad lift - opening as normal this morning.
There is very little atmospheric pressure gradient, the sea and mountains are calm and only a little snow has fallen. The mountains are all tracked out and conditions are hard. On steep slopes above 1000m the thin snow can easily avalanche by rider stimulation. If you fall on it, it will take you away like a magic carpet. Even a shallow avalanche will take you to the valley bottom and bury you tightly. By careful in areas like Kozan no Sawa. There is a deep crack about 200m up from Annupuri Gate 2 on Annupuri sub peak. It cant be seen from above, be careful. Cracks are starting to appear around the mountain.
Today and tomorrow the Sapporo Olympic committee will be conducting a site survey at Yu no Sawa for the Olympic downhill event. This area is in a strictly off limits area and only accessible to committee members. Niseko Rules strictly prohibits entry to Yu no Sawa and Haru no Taki. Please understand and cooperate with the rules. Visibility is poor and be careful of a sudden change in weather.

Dramatic clouds, some blue sky up high
Good morning from Hakuba.
There has been some dramatic early morning images on the webcams this morning with a lot of low cloud around but some blue sky as well especially higher up. Cloud is forecast for the day, but it feels like it might clear up rather than remain cloudy.
We endured some rain yesterday at base though there was some sleet like snow falling at higher elevations. Nothing to get too excited about even though that's better than rain. Hopefully we shall get some more proper snow overnight tonight, though I wouldn't expect much. Would be happy to be surprised.
There's some wind as well this morning which seems to be affecting some lifts at Happo-one at the start of the day including the Gondola and top lifts.

Yesterday was sweltering as temperatures rose well above freezing and the sun shone down. It felt like an early arrival of spring, and the locals were quick to start clearing snow as the layer of white on the ground went to slush. Today is a very warm start, currently just below freezing and expected to rise to a high of +3c. The sun will be around for most of the day along with clear skies. Snow on the lower slopes will be a bit spring-like, while the snow on the upper mountain is still in really good condition.

Well, it's not the best morning.
Mild, fog and drizzle and a bit wet. Snow conditions will probably be rather soft and wet too. Good for practice maybe...

Shiga Kogen Now!
Wednesday 20th February 2019, 8:45am
Good morning from Shiga Kogen.
Though, it's not the nicest of mornings.
Rewind a bit to yesterday and we got some light rain in the afternoon. This morning there is a lot of cloud and fog/mist around making some directions looking rather... spooky! And it is remaining unseasonably mild.
We are hopeful that tonight there might be some fresh snow falling for me to report in the morning.
Shiga Kogen resort info: Wednesday 20th February 2019

Morning from Naeba.
Limited visibility this morning with cloud and fog, mild conditions and light rain. Not the most appealing of conditions but it should be getting colder as the day goes on today and we are hoping for some snow to be falling tonight and into early tomorrow morning.
After that, sunshine is due on Friday and a chance of snow as we enter the weekend which would be nice for weekend visitors.
Hard to believe that the upcoming weekend is the last of February. Traditionally, ski resorts start getting less busy as we enter March. Let's hope the end of this month and March brings us some decent snowfall.

Morning from Zao.
Unfortunately we couldn't avoid some rain last night down at base thought it might have been... sleeting... higher up. All a bit too mild and not the nicest of weather conditions. And not helping the snow either of course. This morning it is just cloudy and of course no fresh cm of snow to report.
We should be getting some clearer skies as well as sun tomorrow and possibly Friday too. Happily it is due to get a bit colder after today. If there's no fresh snow, at least we want cold!
Operation info from official sources:

Aizu Bandai Now!
Wednesday 20th February 2019, 8:54am
Good morning from the Urabandai.
Well, unfortunately, it was raining last night.
As a result the snow on the slopes will be a bit wet this morning but it wasn't heavy rain so hopefully the damage is limited.
The road to the ski hills are slippery with wet snow.
So yes it a very warm morning and feels more like late March than late February. Snow will be melting in this weather, so we are waiting for the next snowfall which is on Saturday if the forecast is right. Fingers crossed.
In this condition, make sure to wax your gear well before you start.
Some sunshine might appear this afternoon so it will be kind of like a spring ski day.
The photos for today are from Alts Bandai (the first two) and Grandeco.

Appi Kogen Now!
Wednesday 20th February 2019, 9:01am
Hello from Appi,
The last few days have brought us a fair amount of snow although it’s certainly not the light dry powder we always expect. It’s wet, heavy and is making things unsavoury on the mountain.
Warmer than usual temperatures will stay with us for another day then head back south again. Not much snow looking out to the next week either but we will have some sunny days to look forward to.
Most runs are sluggish with the groomers offering at least a semi decent day.
The 18cm represents the fresh snow over the last three days with 7cm falling overnight. Apologies for the missed reports.
Planned lift operations & course areas (subject to change due to weather conditions):
- Appi Gondola - Central Quad lift - Central Number 2 - Central Number 3A - Central Number 5 - Sailer quad - Vista quad - Nishimori
* All 5 tree run areas should be open as normal when the lift operations allow - register to use them at Plaza 1st Floor
Official groomed snow depth (as reported by resort):
About as gloomy as it can get here, but the end is in sight over the next few days. Of the rain, at least, as it doesn't look like we'll get a lot of new snow. It could get sunny, too, although the freezing level is low enough that it probably won't be very springlike (which would be OK, frankly, if we don't get a lot of fresh snow).
Oh, well, mountain weather and all that. No sense in letting it get you down (although, looking outside right now, smoke-like tendrils of fog are flowing around the building....).
