Weather conditions: Snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Only 5cm of snow overnight, but big flakes falling again this morning. Air temperature is currently mild - a good indication of the size of the low front approaching. At this stage wind conditions are slight.

Resort runs remain hard underfoot, and caution is recommended for most tree run areas - only a thin layer of snow covers lots of track ruts. There is a little untouched powder at the far end of Strawberries, but today's pick is the groomers being smooth and fast with a softening 5cm powder cover.

Yesterday's winds have filled in some backcountry areas, offering good turns off the peak. For those heading out of bounds, best to be aware that the approaching snow storm should bring strong winds and reduce visibility.   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
No snow overnight once more and a cloudy start to the day, with no wind and fairly mild temperatures. Seems that snow is on the cards for late tonight and tomorrow, so we are hoping that the forecasts are correct. Snow conditions still generally good (esp in the mornings) due to the colder temperatures, but a new topup would be good.   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Wednesday 21st January 2004, 11:12am
Weather conditions: Cloud, fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Clouds hanging over the region this morning, the sun trying to peek through at times it seems. The forecast is giving us hope of the next cold spell and snow coming tomorrow, which will be good timing for the weekend.

In the meantime, snow conditions out there still good, and slopes still empty.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Wednesday 21st January 2004, 13:07pm
Weather conditions: Overcast, snow on the way
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It's a relatively mild, overcast day today. There was no new snow overnight by the sounds, and the temperature is up to zero once more at village level. It looks like it could start snowing anytime on the hill.

As another reminder, lift tickets are half price in Hakuba tomorrow and Friday.

It's the biggest event of the year in town tomorrow (Jan 22) as the FIS World Cup Ski Jump tour rolls in. As ever, it's a night event with the trial jumps starting at 5pm and the contest proper at 6pm, so wrap up really well if you're thinking of going. It's definitely worth seeing if you have the time.

At present, the snowmen are lining up on the forecast and it looks like on-off snow from tonight right through to the weekend. High winds are forecast for tomorrow, and I hope they're in the right direction for the ski jumpers.   Read more ...
