Geto Kogen Now!
Thursday 21st November 2019, 7:47am
Morning from Geto and the good news continues with 20cm of fresh snowfall to report at base.
The official snow depths (compacted snow on the courses) now stands at 30cm-55cm and the resort is opening from this morning.
At first they will open A1-A2 courses but there is a chance of more opening beyond that... dependent on patrol.
(Less excellent is that there might be some spots of rain today as it is a little warmer, hopefully that will hold off; clearer weather forecast for tomorrow).
Had to laugh, my google translate converted 'Geto Kogen' into 'summer oil plateau' which I suppose is a literal translation of the kanji. Perhaps I should call it that from now on... just kidding.
Official snow depths:
* Top: 55cm * Base: 30cm
Courses & Tree Runs - subject to change due to weather:
* A1-A2 courses starting things off * All tree runs closed Read more ...

Yesterday strong winds and snow hit Furano, depositing a little more snow on the ground.
It is a nice morning and the snow flurries have stopped for now. The sun is forecast to move to cloudy conditions during the day. Some rain is on the forecast to high elevations over the weekend. Read more ...

Just a dusting really since my last report, so there are no new cm to add this morning. There is still a lot of cloud around and it's all shades of white and grey, but we may well get some sunshine today - and indeed over the weekend too. It is going to be a milder too and there's not a whole lot of snow on the forecast into early week. We shall see, as they say.
There's lots of super-excitable marketing messaging going on right now. (I always think - it must be so tiring having to keep that up all the time!). But currently no firm news about what might happen come Saturday from Hirafu and Annupuri, the resorts that were planning to open on that day. Hopefully I will have such news tomorrow. I might post a bit later in the morning tomorrow in order to gather any such news.
If I put an exclamation point inside a bracket like above, do I need a full stop on the other side? Answers on a postcard please.
As you can tell, really in need of those first tracks!
Night time operations will be available at the Niseko Grand Hirafu, Niseko Village and Niseko Annupuri resorts. That is planned daily between Wednesday 11th December 2019 and Sunday 22nd March 2020.
Lift ticket prices depend on the period - Early, Regular or Spring Season:
Early Season = Saturday 23rd November 2019 until Tuesday 10th December 2019 Regular Season = Wednesday 11th December 2019 until Sunday 22nd March 2020 Spring Season = Monday 23rd March 2020 until Wednesday 6th May 2020

Morning from Yuzawa.
Delayed opening news this morning, I'm afraid. Hardly surprising but Kagura have announced that they won't be opening on Saturday due to there not being enough snow.
There is snow on both the main Kagura run and down to Mitsumata as well, just not enough. Snow making machines are working hard this morning to help along on that main Kagura area. The official word is that they will open as soon as is possible. The forecast for the next six days or so isn't showing much potential for snow as well as a warmer spell over the weekend. We'll just have to sit tight and have patience.
To the north of the Yuzawa area (in Uonuma city) is a ski resort called Okutadami Maruyama. Okutadami Maruyama also often tries to open on 23rd November and interestingly closes for a large part of mid-winter due to location/access. Anyway, that resort has also delayed opening. Yesterday they were reporting 10cm of snow on the slopes, according to the local Niigata news. While the manger said they were ready to open as soon as possible, they also seemed to be indicating that they are now aiming to open on 7th December. Let's hope they have snow before then.
Kagura news: Until last season, during periods when only the main Kagura Area of the resort was open, you had to ski/board down a snow mat area or do some walking on the way over to the Gondola. But this season the resort is going to be operqating the Mitsumata Number 2 pair lift - meaning you can ride the lift down there, eliminating the need to walk down there.
Planned opening dates - subject to change of course depending on weather/snow conditions.
A bit more snow since last report but it's still thin on the ground.
Kumanoyu will announce tomorrow if they will be able to open or not on Saturday. I wouldn't be making firm plans myself... anyway I will report tomorrow.
There is a bit of snow forecast for tomorrow night but after that the weekend is currently set to be a little warmer before getting colder again early week.
The official site still has lift operation page set to 'Summer Lifts'. Deary me...
Official opening info:
'Pre-open' - 23rd November, depending on snow Opening ceremony - 7th December at Ichinose Diamond
The section of road connecting the southern area of Shiga Kogen (from Yokoteyama onwards) with Gunma Prefecture is now closed for the season. It will be closed until 24th April 2020. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Thursday 21st November 2019, 9:31am
Good morning from Nozawa.
Sadly, I have to bring you the rather inevitable news of a delayed opening this morning. Yes, Nozawa isn't going to be able to open on Saturday as planned, so they are now into 'stand-by' mode and will open as soon as there is enough snow.
Yesterday at 10am they were reporting 10cm of snow on the upper Yamabiko area.
Good to see a thin sprinkling of snow lower down though and there are spots of rain this morning.
As you can see from the images today, it's a rather thick and foggy/cloudy kind of morning.
Over the weekend some milder temps are forecast and there's more of a chance of rain than snow even higher up if the forecasts are correct. So think that the delay in opening will be for at least a week...
Webcam still images below from 9:30am on 21st November 2019:

Nozawa Onsen will open as soon as is possible - when there is enough snow to do so! Read more ...

So much for sunshine today! Right now visibility is low. We are still expecting a milder weekend with sunshine at times.
Snowfall reported here is observed since my report yesterday.
