Nozawa Onsen Now!
Monday 22nd April 2013, 8:05am
It might well be warming up soon... but not quite yet.
This morning it's another cold and wintery-like start to the day and there's more snow to report.... up to 7cm on Yamabiko according to the resort themselves, and 5cm on Uenotaira. A cold -5C up there too as of 7:30am and conditions described as 'powder'. Not bad at all.
Similarly poor visibility up on the top runs this morning and the forecast for the day is decent weather and so perhaps we will see it clear up as the day moves on.
Warmer conditions are expected tomorrow.

Just to remind you of the lifts operating at the Niseko Grand Hirafu resort area. They are the Ace Number 2 Quad center four, the King Number 3 Triple and the King Number 4 lifts. The Hirafu Gondola is operating on Saturdays, Sundahys and national holidays.

It's keeping fairly cold out and there's still some of that snow that fell in places around town today.
I am hearing some very positive reports from people who went up to Kagura over the weekend. Apparently there was quite a bit more than the original 10cm that was reported. Some people saying as much as 30cm of fresh in places, though I'm not sure if they were just getting a bit carried away there! The resort came back and said 20cm. They were delighted to have timed it right to get some fresh snow conditions and by all accounts it was really good up there --- certainly considering it's the second half of April. That's what we like to hear!
Some rain earlier on this morning, but it at lunchtime now the sun is out and there is more blue sky on show as well as a fair bit of cloud hanging on. It is about 9 degrees now in Yuzawa.
Tomorrow is going to warm up a fair bit with a high temperature of around 17 degrees forecast for the town areas, so that should get rid of the remaining snow on the lower slopes.

Cloud, some breaks
More snow this morning up on the mountain as spring holds off once again. -3 degrees up there and 210cm of snow. Some parting of the clouds and blue sky on show this lunchtime and perhaps it will clear up more. But it's keeping cold.
Tomorrow the forecast is for sunnier skies and warmer temperatures... Read more ...

Cloud, fine, blue sky
That snowfall was all gone from the ground by mid afternoon, though it did try to snow on and off again later in the day yesterday before clearing up somewhat to leave us with a dramatic mix of cloud and clearings of sky as it got dark.
Today so far has seen a lot of white cloud hanging around the mountains and here and there with a blue sky as a background. This afternoon the sun has been out and fine conditions. Currently about 8 degrees in the village. More sun is expected tomorrow along with warmer temperatures.
