With a transformation in weather from hot to cold there couldn't be a better time to provide an update to Furano Now readers.
Furano experienced an unusally long and hot summer this year which was most welcome by outdoor enthusiasts and travelers alike. Summer however is now long gone and we are surrounded by cold air and the changing of the leaves, which has transformed lush green mountains into a canvas of pretty yellows, oranges and reds.
Temperatures have plummeted over the last couple of weeks and homes have recommissioned their heating systems which are in use on a daily basis. Down jackets have replaced t-shirts as the choice of wear for a stroll in the park, and dogs have donned their coats for early morning walks.
Fresh snow has been observed across the valley on Tokachidake from a couple of weeks ago and Friday saw the first few snow flakes in the air in Furano. This morning we have awoken to a wintery 3C and a dusting of snow over the top half of the ski area. Furano has a target opening 17 November.
It is definitely time to pull your skis out the closet and give them a pre season wax in anticipation of the coming season which may be kicking off here in Furano in less than 4 weeks.
