It looks like the sun is going to come out soon, so get out there and have a nice weekend.

Due to maintenance the halfpipe remains closed today.

Well well well! .....the comlete opposite of yesterday! After dumping up to 80cm in places, this morning starts with bright sun and blue skies - it's one of those days when the forecast is way off.

Weekend riders won't be complaining though as the conditions out there are excellent after the big snowfall of yesterday.   Read more ...

Good snowfall yesterday - around 50cm in places - and we all thought we'd be getting up to snow this morning as well... but it is a fine morning at present with the sun making an appearance. Forecast was wrong, but they're still telling us that snow is on it's way back so, er, there's a chance of that! In the meantime, an superb time to be out on the slopes in Shiga Kogen - see you out there!   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Saturday 24th January 2004, 12:22pm
Weather conditions: Snow, no wind
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
After postponement due to heavy snow on Thursday night, the World Cup Large Hill ski jumping event took place in, err, heavy snow last night. Congratulations to Finland's Matti Hautamaeki who did best in the poor conditions to chalk up another victory this season. The best Japanese showing was from Itoh-kun, a third-year high school student. He came ninth.

It stopped coming down at village level earlier this morning, making a total of around 80cm so far, but it looks like we're off again now as I write. It doesn't come down by halves in Hakuba! The reports are slow coming in today, but the man with the big stick at Goryu says they got an extra 65cm overnight (since yesterdays measurement surely?), taking them up to a mighty 315cm. The snow at village level has been good-quality pow, so it will be stellar higher up.

A sunny day is forecast for tomorrow, with more snow to follow during the week.    Read more ...
