Niseko Now!

Sunday 25th January 2004, 8:45am
Weather conditions: Sun, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Mild, sunny conditions continue. No new snow overnight, and blue skies overhead at present. Cloud cover is expected to appear around noon, but the likelihood of new snow remains low. Best runs on freshly groomed runs, Hanazono 3 being today's pick.

Evening update:

Blue skies and sunshine have illuminated Niseko all day, providing fantastic views of Mt Yotei and the Sea of Japan. Warmer temperatures created spring-like snow conditions down low, but weekend crowds made the most of this good weather.

Tonight's nighta is expected to be super fast as today's melt refreezes.    Read more ...

Weather conditions: Light snow, cloud
New snowfall: --

After a great start to the day yesterday, the clouds moved in after noon and it started getting colder. The snow started falling again later in the evening.

Since yesterday evening, there was about 20cm of new snow outside, keeping conditions out there really good for today. Snow was falling earlier on but at present it has cleared up a bit, but a good chance of it coming down again later on.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Sunday 25th January 2004, 12:22pm
Weather conditions: Started fine but deteriorating
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
We had powder bluebird conditions first thing this morning, but the clouds have since rolled in and I think we'll see snow again today. It's minus two now at village level and everything above 1000m or so is in cloud.

Another 10-15cm fell at NowHQ last night, but the official reports today have not mentioned how much new snow fell on the slopes. A couple of shots from Tsugaike show tracks that look 20-30cm deep. If you know where to look, it should still be very deep offpiste.

We've been having a prolonged cold spell, so the snow quality should be excellent.   Read more ...
