Silver Week has come and gone now and we generally had fine, sunny weather. Temperatures have stayed fairly warm during the daytimes this last week, even though evenings continue to be cool. It is a sunny day today with a high of around 26 degrees and after perhaps some rain overnight looks like we should have more fine weather over the weekend and into next week. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!

Welcome back to Nozawa Onsen!
No snow on the ground yet but a magic time of the year in the Village.
Still pretty warm during the days but the mercury is starting to drop at night - perfect weather for hiking and onsens!
The village is busy with harvesting time. There are some beautiful scenes with the farmers at work harvesting the rice, vegetables and famous Nozawa Na pickle.
Pretty nice eaten fresh at the moment with some Sesame Paste. All the old girls are dropping it around daily for a taste test!
Coming into October the leaves will slowly start to change color and we will be blessed with an array of beautiful reds, orange and gold hues across the mountains
Then before we know it the Snow season will be upon us and looking forward to a great one. The lift company will open the resort from last week of November snow permitting. So let it snow, just off to the shrine to request for some divine intervention!
Look forward to seeing you all up here anytime for the Autumn hiking or a slide come winter. Read more ...

Sunny with scattered clouds
Greetings from the sunny autumn village of Hakuba. We are happy to see the fall colours slowly working their way down the mountains. The rice fields are yellow are being harvested and soon the apples of the Shinshu area will be ready too!
As the cooler temperatures being to flow in from the north, the local riders and skiers inevitably begin to salivate at the thought of the first snowfall. An undocumented source even mentioned in passing that Tateyama had received a snowfall last week!
We have been enjoying the nice fall days here by hiking and camping as well. At 2400m the night time temperatures fell to just above freezing so....it is not far off until we can expect to see some nice frosty dusting atop the peaks surrounding Hakuba. We will drop the info when that comes!!
In preparation for the coming EPIC (collective positive thinking folks) winter, rock out the lastest skiing DVD's, strap on your weapons in your living room and imagine training for those sick powder days we will be having. A little physical leg training exercises might be beneficial as well, my personal favorite (chair to fridge, beer, chair ) 6 sets of multiple repetitions. Running, weight lifting and biking also work I hear.
Until Ular the Norse God of Snow drops his white bombs we will pray and wait diligently for his arctic blessings! Keep it cool!
