New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --

Temperatures are a little warm for snow however, so possibly some wet snow.

The next few days are forecast for snow so lets hope it comes deep and fluffy.    Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Weather conditions: Fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday it snowed on and off lightly in the morning but came good in the afternoon for a perfect day on the mountain. The powder was a little bit heavy but very deep, too deep to ride in some places on Yamabiko. This morning it is cold but sunny and probably quite crunchy on the lower slopes at least.

The forecast is looking good, very heavy snow expected tonight, which will continue until Thursday.    Read more ...

A clear stary night produced very low temperatures (-18) over night. The sun is out this morning with a current temperature of -8 deg C and no wind in the valley. As the day progresses the clouds should roll in and there is snow expected from this evening through to Thursday midday.

The outlook for the weekend is for mostly fine weather, will will be a nice change from the snow and wind of late.

Backcountry Advisory
High winds and up to 90cm of fresh snow above 1300m will be loading lee slopes with some decent size sluffs expected (top 30-40cm). Caution is advised.

Yuzawa Now!

Tuesday 26th February 2008, 8:52am
Weather conditions: Overcast, bright, sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The snow was on and off for most of yesterday - at times falling with intent, shortly after the sun was out for short periods. Things seemed to clear up by late evening.

This morning it is about 0 degrees and overcast but bright. In fact, right now the sun is out. The temperature is forecast to rise a fair bit today with a mild day on the cards - perhaps as warm as +7 degrees at town level.

Later on in the day rain is forecast but hopefully that will not last long and turn into snow as the temperatures drop again tonight and into tomorrow, when snow is forecast.

While there is only a slight breeze at the moment, stronger winds may be with us later today and also tomorrow with potential to disrupt lift operations if they gain enough strength.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Tuesday 26th February 2008, 8:59am
Weather conditions: Overcast with light snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The lift queues were as big as they get in Hirafu yesterday morning with everyone anticipating the best day ever after the huge storm the day before. Unfortunately the wind ravaged the mountain leaving mostly wind blown crust. But some riders found protected areas where the powder had hidden from the wind and was very good. The top of the mountain did not open due to difficulty getting lifts open. It was sunny in the morning and then started snowing around 10:30am. Light snow continued through the day.

Light snow, temperatures below freezing and overcast skies are predicted for the rest of the week. At 9am this morning, Hanazona and the top lifts are still not open. Patrol states that there is considerable wind and low visability on the top of the mountain.

Shiga Kogen Now!

Tuesday 26th February 2008, 9:05am
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The snow clouds cleared up yesterday afternoon and it looks like today is going to be a fine day. No new snow to report overnight. It is a bright and overcast morning here, but very possibly the sun might make an appearance if we are lucky.

It's not as cold as it has been these last few days as well with temperatures back up into single minus figures in most areas and a relatively mild -3 at Ichinose.

Snow conditions remain excellent and the slopes not crowded, it's a good time to be here!

Nighta is planned at the following resort areas of Shiga Kogen today:

- Ichinose Family
- Ichinose Diamond   Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Weather conditions: cloudy

We're entering the second day of no snowfall, but unlike yesterday temps will not stay low. In fact rain is scheduled for the late afternoon: most heinous.

The pick of the day is Suginohara because the upper lifts were closed yesterday. Today the top of Sugi should be high and dry, at least for a few hours. Ahh, the impermanence of all things.

Hakuba Now!

Tuesday 26th February 2008, 10:21am
Weather conditions: Snowing
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The clouds are back after yesterdays blue skies and we awoke this morning to 5 cms or so of fresh light dry fluffy powder in Echoland this morning...snow looks set to continue through the day becoming heaviest tonight meaning tomorrow should be another epic morning...if you didn't today get up early tomorrow!

Backcountry Travel Advisory as at Feb 24th:

Strong winds on Saturday have created thick wind slabs on South and South East aspects that may be unstable in steep convexing terrain. Combine this with the recent heavy snow and one could expect instability in steeper North and South aspects. Take due care around exposed rocks and sparse trees on solar aspects and in steep lee slopes. The recent snow is very variable in depth due to the wind and solar radiation so be aware of this when entering into slopes and stay away from shallow snow on steep entrances in to chutes and open slopes.

Avalanche Danger Scale:

Below Tree Line: Moderate

Tree Line: Considerable

Alpine: High

Naeba Now!

Weather conditions: overcast

A warm one today. Cloudy with an attempt at rain. Miserable overcast weather looms whilst the trees wait for their next coating of snow. Gondolas No2 has been running today and conditions on the slopes have not been to bad at all - Last weeks snow storm really filled up the valleys and created a number of snow cliffs in the off piste areas. One of which yours truly was lucky (or unlucky enough dependent on how you look at it) enough to find himself floating over thus creating the cartoon style splat imprint in the snow. So awareness is needed if venturing into what one might think to be a normal run - the terrain really has changed shape over the last week.   Read more ...
