overcast with light rain at village level, sleet rain on peak
Lots of happy faces yesterday as the lifts in Hirafu took their first loads of the season, the news this morning is that Hirafu has opened up the Ace Quad and Ace Pair 3 today to compliment yesterdays Ace Family only service. Annupuri Quad and Pair 3 are also now operating for the first time this winter.
Current weather conditions are very wet with light rain at village level that has been going on for some hours now and with that precipitation falling as sleet further up top. The warmer weather looks to be with us through the next couple of days but the reports are all in agreement that Tuesday night will see a dipping in temperatures accompanied by snow continuing through Friday with some heavy looking snowfalls due Friday night.
It is an overcast morning here, with patches of blue sky - a few hours ago there was more blue up there but there's a more grey look there now. As forecast though it is going to be a mild morning and a high of perhaps up to around 13 degrees in the village early this afternoon. The mild conditions will probably continue through the early part of the week with the next snowfall looking likely later on Wednesday night.
The same runs at Goryu and 47 open today. There isn't much snow up there and with the mild weather there is always the chance that the resort(s) might need to close by the end of today. Keep that in mind if you do with to get those first turns in and we advise you contact the resort if you do intend to go.
Late edit: Unfortunately the snow hasn't held up with the mild conditions and Goryu/47 have had to close up shop late this afternoon -- not enough up there. So we are back to all-closed now and waiting for snow. The next snowfall looks due perhaps around Wednesday night into Thursday. Read more ...

Wintry Mix / Rain
It's 3 degrees and raining outside. A wintry mix is flying around up on the mountain, but today is not exactly the best day to be out on the slopes. Lingering snow showers from yesterday's storm stuck around all morning before changing to a mix of sleet, snow, and rain around 10am. Down in the village the roads are a mess, but hopefully the rain will let up by early evening. Winds are light and variable, and shouldn't pose too much of a problem for those who decide to brave the elements today.
Tomorrow promises another return to warmer temperatures with an afternoon high around 6. Read more ...
