Minakami Now!

Saturday 28th March 2009, 7:09am
Weather conditions: Light snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Almost perfect weather for the past couple of days. Snow has been starting early evening and continuing for most of the night. The snowfalls have been pretty light with between 5 and 10 centimetres falling up in the resort. The days have then being clearing up and we've had sun and blue skies. The first turns of the day have been soft and fluffy, with the rest of the day being soft due to the warm temperatures. Last night has seen the biggest fall and the snow is still falling now.

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Saturday 28th March 2009, 8:33am
Weather conditions: snow showers, partly fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The snow continued to fall yesterday evening even in the village and continued on and off through the night, delivering 10cm to the village and Yamabiko and reportedly 20cm to Uenodaira. It is currently -2 degrees down here and -8 up the top, with a 15km/h northwesterly wind. It is a partly cloudy day with passing snow showers and light snow interspersed with periods of fine weather.

More snow is forecast for tonight and tomorrow morning before a fine day on Monday. Snow again for Tuesday, with very heavy snow forecast for Wednesday night.

What a great way to finish up the season - a week of powder!

The following courses are no longer available for sliding; Kandahar, Challenge 39, Utopia B course, Kurokura, Hachiman, Schneider, Ushikubi, Skyline, Grand prix, Jumping, Mukoubayashi and Karasawa.

Kandahar, Yunomine, Challenge, Utopia, Nagasaka link and Karasawa lifts are closed.   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Saturday 28th March 2009, 9:53am
Weather conditions: Sunny blue skies turning Grey
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It's so bright out there this morning! I could barely see anything as I stumbled across the sheet white road and car park to the ski slope. The sun is out, and the hill is in action with ski schools and snow bandits.

So it snowed again and so we're talking January conditions yesterday and likely same again up the top of the hill today. I say January because the mountain has had it's snow striped as of recent days and then snowed upon again giving us a case of sneaky rocks under powder snow.   Read more ...

Furano Now!

Saturday 28th March 2009, 10:22am
Weather conditions: Light overcast.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
After a frosty night with temps dipping to -7, the groomed slopes were in amazing shape this morning. Temperatures continue to be quite cold for this time of the year, and the Furano Ski Hill shows no signs of melt through.

When spring is as cold as this year, it's a common sight to see farmers spreading ash on their snow-covered fields, to try to absorb more sunlight and accellerate the spring thaw.

There is a chance of a bit more snow this afternoon.

Think snow, think powder, think more bluebird days!   Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Saturday 28th March 2009, 10:32am
Weather conditions: Blue skies, more snow forecast for this afternoon
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
You certainly couldn't ask for better conditions the next to last weekend of the season - around 30 cm of fresh powder and blinding blue skies. Enjoy it while it lasts. The powder will quickly turn to spring slop if the sun stays out, but for now visibility is super, there's no wind, and the temperature is right around freezing.

Speaking of sloppy, local roads were a slushy mess this morning, although they should dry out fairly quickly in the sun. Watch out for cars with Shinagawa plates and no snow tires driving 30 k/h on Route 18 (a national highway)...

It looks like the cold front is going to stay at least through the weekend. The forecast still calls for snow showers this afternoon and tomorrow, with a bit of sun on Monday and Tuesday before the next big snowfall (I can't believe I'm writing "big snowfall" on March 28) on Wednesday.

Suginohara is operating its #2 Mitahara high speed chair lift along with the gondola for the final weekend of the its season.

Yuzawa Now!

Saturday 28th March 2009, 10:41am
Weather conditions: Light snow in places, cloud > clearing up
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Just a bit of new snow in town but the mountains have been getting a bit more and again Kagura are reporting a decent snowfall up top - 20-30cm! There will be some pretty decent conditions up there today, especially considering it is late March.

As I write this it is 2 degrees in Yuzawa and I can see a bit of blue sky behind the clouds that seems to be starting to break up. It is fairly bright and the forecast does tell us to expect decent weather this afternoon.

With this new snowfall, the snow depth numbers at most places have been rising the last few days (see below) and actually a course at Nunoba near the centre of town has once more opened up for the spring holidays.

Just cloud tomorrow and Monday on the forecast at the moment.

Shiga Kogen Now!

Saturday 28th March 2009, 11:02am
Weather conditions: Cloud, fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
I have another 10cm or so of fresh snow to report this morning (since yesterdays report) and some very good conditions on (and off!) the courses right now. The snowfalls of the last days have really given the resorts a new energy and the people turning up for the spring holidays in Japan will be pleasantly surprised at how good conditions are.

It is a cold morning, -7 outside at the moment, so no spring conditions here at the moment - still need to wrap up. The snow clouds have mostly moved on now and looks like it is going to be a fine day. The forecast is for generally fine/cloudy weather for the next few days as well.

The following resorts plans to be open for nighta tonight:
Ichinose Family
Kumanoyu
