Grandeco Now!

Monday 28th March 2016, 7:50am
Weather conditions: Bluebird
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 195cm
It's nothing but blue skies and sun this morning at Grandeco. No new snow last night and the base is down to just under two meters. Get out your sunnies, cause this is full on spring skiing for the next few days.

No wind and the sun is forecasted to stay out all day today and tomorrow.

All the courses are groomed packed snow, which should warm up to spring conditions getting a bit slushy in the afternoon. The #4 Lift has closed for the season and the Lavender Courses A & B are also closed respectively.

The Snow Park team is finishing off the new 50m spring session halfpipe and skate style obstacle park. This is scheduled to open on the 1st of April.

The main beginner and intermediate park area is still open and freshly groomed.

Roads up to Deco this morning are clear.

Nekoma will be closed between 19th-21st and 26th-28 April but these resorts all plan to be open until 5th May ---- whether they can do that or not will totally depend on the snow levels of course, which are less than usual and less than expected.    Read more ...

Madarao Now!

Monday 28th March 2016, 8:01am
Weather conditions: Blue skies
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 85cm
Good morning from Madarao, and it's more fine weather today.

Blue skies and sunshine.

And the forecast shows lots more of that for basically all of this week. I don't think that we're going to get any more fresh snow out there, so what we have now is very likely what we go to play in until the lifts close.

If the forecasts are right it should be gradually warming up through the week as well.

Sunscreen recommended!

Niseko Now!

Monday 28th March 2016, 8:31am
Weather conditions: Cloud, blue sky
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 120cm
** In preparation for some changes being planned for next season, some maintenance/server work will be happening tomorrow. This means that Now reports may be appearing later than usual. Apologies in advance for any 'late appearances' - we have some exciting chances coming for next season!

---

Hello and good morning from Niseko.

Lots of cloud currently around the mountain but more blue skies to be seen in other directions on this somewhat mild-feeling morning. It's +4C at base here right now.

The report below mentions a bit of snow higher up, will need to go and check that out.

It looks like this week we are going to see quite a lot of sunshine and experience warmer spring conditions. Not much snow potential there on the forecast at all (maybe a bit higher up), rather if anything some rain around Wednesday perhaps.

That's about it for the moment really... I will see you tomorrow.

Resort specific lift opening news at time of posting (subject to change during the day):

Niseko Grand Hirafu
Niseko HANAZONO Resort
Niseko Village
Niseko Annupuri
All resort areas appear to be opening as planned at the start of the day.

---

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Niseko base 6am: +2℃. Moiwa 838m: -0.1℃, N0.4m/s. Annupuri 1000m snowpack 300cm. Hirafu peak ridge: -3℃, light sprinkles. Benkei cape: WNW9m/s, Kamui cape: NW4m/s, 1015hPa, 1.5m waves.

A weak cold front passed and left some snowfall above 800m elevation. The temperature is high, thaw is continuing at the base of the mountain. Full depth avalanche hazard is rising, better stay away from valley bottoms. All gates are scheduled to open, however Moiwa gate 6 will be closed due to closing of peak lift.

The snow condition changes from one aspect and elevation to another. Overconfidence, assumptions and wrong judgments prioritizing the descent can cause accidents. Your wisdom is always being challenged in the mountains. Stay prudent and make conservative decisions. Coming back home safe is no.1 priority.

This information will end soon. We strongly hope there are no more accidents happening in the area.

Artificial avalanche experiments will be taking place in Muzuno no Sawa today.

A fine day yesterday in the valley, again more cloud around at the end of the day than the start but still blue skies and sunshine dominating. It warmed up as well, but not toooo much!

It's a fine morning for the moment, though some forecasts tell us that it might rain (snow higher up?) later on.

Tomorrow should be sunny again and we are going to see some warmer conditions this week... expect double digits tomorrow.

Yesterday was the last day of the season for Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field resort but there's still plenty of snow left higher up.

Morning from Yuzawa.

Light blue skies this morning with the sun out and just a few clouds. And it's going to be fairly warm day, already about 8 degrees as we approach 9am. More of the same seems likely tomorrow as well with sun mostly dominating the forecast for this week and if anything things warming up slightly more.

Yesterday was of course the last day of the season for Ishiuchi Maruyama and Yuzawa Nakazato resorts, with a few more following on later this week. Must say, they have done well to be remain open this long though no doubt it has been something of a struggle for some places.

A quick warning if you suffer from hay fever! I was out yesterday for a few hours and paid for it with itchy eyes and uncontrollable sneezing for the next 3-4 hours... there's a lot of it about at the moment.

Resort official snow depths (Monday 28th March 2016) and any specific news at time of writing:

There are now patches of ground on view showing on lower slopes around town - though covered up temporarily yesterday with fresh snow! Some more than others. The snow situation means that some courses/areas at resorts are now closed. If you are planning on visiting, I recommended that you check with the individual resorts for their up-to-date details. You can find their websites from the links below. Note that snow cover is not a problem higher up so there's still a lot of skiing and boarding left.

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Monday 28th March 2016, 9:00am
Weather conditions: Clear and sunny (a few clouds)
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 35cm
Good morning from Nozawa.

The sun is out. There's blue skies all around. Just a little white cloud here and there. Lovely spring morning. And more similar mornings due this week as well if the forecasts are right.

The resort is going to be offering cheaper lift tickets from 4th April (one day adult 3700 yen; child 1700 yen; senior 2900 yen). They're saying these will be available 'until 8th May' as well, so are still planning on being open until then... if the snow situation allows of course. There's still excellent cover up top, and right now it's not an issue but we'll just have to see how weather shapes up over the coming weeks. All other things being equal, with less base than usual we can expect a quicker melt.

We'll just have to get up there as often as possible to enjoy it while it lasts. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Monday 28th March 2016, 9:02am
Weather conditions: Weather is almost bluebird clear out there today. Just a few clouds in the sky
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 80cm
Good morning from Naeba everyone.

Today is another glorious day outside with only a few clouds in the sky.

Unfortunately the forecast rain did arrive last night although again not in torrential amounts. This means that conditions are pretty spring like out there as is to be expected in late March.

Looking on the whole week is supposed to be a mixture of rain and then clear weather.

Naeba 6-day snow and weather forecast

Naeba has announced that it's season will end on Sunday 4th April - no opening beyond then due to the low snow levels this year - and so there's just over a week and a half to go. It is not looking too bad out there today. The recent blue skies that we have become accoustomed to haven't appeared, but it is a mix of cloud and sun out on the mountain. Temperatures are really spring like with positives recorded at the top of the resort early morning - expect spring snow! Looking like a warm one here today but perfect weather. Last night saw rain at the base and a small amount of snow on the resort.

Still plenty of snow to ride at Tenjin but no new snow or sub-zero temps forecast for the top (1500m) going forward. Something small Wednesday evening possibly the exception.

This coming week they'll be working on the bowl for Minakami vibes (Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd). The creation is starting to look pretty cool. Everybody can ride the bowl over the weekend, test next year's line-up of boards from various makers and generally celebrate the end of the season.

Good morning from Appi.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend. Right now we’ve got sunny skies, a relatively warm +3 outside and light winds. The temperature forecast has been creeping up for the last 36hours and now we’re expecting +4 or 5 degrees in a few days from now. Obviously we’ll be getting no more snow for what seems like the rest of the season here.

We’re down to the main gondola now and a few other lifts. The Second and Sailer areas are now closed until next season. Run conditions remain iffy at best and you can expect a lot of slush this afternoon. A full recap is coming when April 1st hits and I’ll try not to make it an April fools joke either.

If you feel like getting the last few runs in then today would be good. You’ll probably have the mountain to yourself.

Myoko Now!

Monday 28th March 2016, 13:16pm
Weather conditions: Clear to the east and south, cloudy to the northwest and west
New snowfall: 0cm
Snow depth: 175cm
Well, the main season is now officially over.

A nice, sunny day today, very spring-like, very warm, and even a little rain blowing in from the north (it's pretty clear in all directions except to the northwest and north, over the peaks).

Things lasted longer than we expected, actually. The ski resorts to the south side of our area had noticeably less snow than the Akakuras and Seki, but stayed open pretty much as scheduled. I was on Akakan yesterday, and there is still plenty of snow - you can still ski all the way to the base, which we really thought was unlikely just a short time ago.

Ikenotaira and Suginohara are now both closed for the season; all others have at least some main lifts running.

Akakura Kanko:
3° / 175cm; Sky Cable, No. 2 and 3 lifts; Champion side closed

Ikenotaira Onsen:
