Furano Now!

Weather conditions: snowing heavily.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Started snowing heavily around midday yesterday and is still going. Overnight there has been 20cm of snow accumulate on the roads, with more expected on the mountain. The ropeway is still the main lift open accessing 2 runs Zaira and Speis.

The quality of the fresh snow is excellent, really light and fluffy. Snow is expected to continue for the next 24 hours, and then the early half of next week. It's such a pleasure seeing continuous 'Snowman' icons in local weather reports!

I'll update with a few photos from on the slopes later on today.

Weather conditions: Sunny with cloud

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen!

There's a beautiful sky out this morning. The sun is shining (for the moment) and today's temperature shouldn't really being getting much lower than -3 or higher than 4 in village today. The walking should get a little easier as we got a good 2cm of snow to coat that lovely ice from yesterday but be careful when wandering around town anyway.

The previous high front is upon us and we should be getting some winds from the north west.

Sorry to say but we're not going to be waist deep in freshies todayon the mountain as the weather is only calling for occasional flurries and wind.

Yuzawa Now!

Wednesday 28th November 2007, 9:01am
Weather conditions: Cloud, clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It is a brighter morning in Yuzawa after all that cloud and mist going on yesterday. We can clearly see the mountains. Much of the snow at town level has now melted away but even round here pretty much all of the slopes are still looking white. Today and tomorrow are forecast to brighten up and be fine weather wise, with little chance of snow.

Going into the weekend it looks like it is rain or possibly snow (especially higher up) and more precipitation on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Wednesday 28th November 2007, 10:45am
Weather conditions: Partly cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Hakuba currently sitting under partly cloudy skies with sunlight poking in through the clouds. The upper slopes on all the resorts are shrouded in clouds from about the 1500 m point. Warmer temperatures over the past few days have melted the lower slopes of snow and the snowpack on the upper runs has gone down about 10cm because of it. Still primo conditions for this early and if you want to work on those early season techniques.

1:30pm update

About 30cm in parts up on the mountain this morning. It's continued to snow all morning. Snow quality is so light and fluffy that it's not binding well on the icy crust from a few days ago. The 30cm was not quite deep enough to stop you from sinking through to the crusty layer below and it made for cautious turns in parts. This is being a bit picky though and for most part the light powder was exceptional today.

The mountain is still very quiet. The only guests are a few locals plus a big group of racing kids tearing up the piste, but they don't really care about the white and fluffy so it's left alone.

Visibility was very poor and down to only 100m or so in spots. That's the trade off though for excellent snow quality. Wind was minimal, and heavy snow fell in serene silence.

I forgot to take my camera out, so no photos. Sorry.   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Wednesday 28th November 2007, 15:46pm
Weather conditions: Cloud, clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
After the last few days of milder temperatures, sun and rain yesterday, there are a fair few bald patches appearing on the lower slopes of Naeba today. The Gondola has been moving today once more but the skiable area is under a bit of pressure right now... some new snow would be most welcome. No need to worry we are still in November! It is looking like tomorrow will be fine with a chance of rain or hopefully snow later on Friday and over the weekend.    Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Wednesday 28th November 2007, 23:49pm
Weather conditions: clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Sunny skies melted most of the snow despite low temperatures. Tomorrow looks to be more of the same but with higher temps. The volatile autumn should come to an end by the end of this week, however, as the low night temps coupled with precipitation brings in that Myoko powder we've been waiting for. Again, the slopes open on the 15th.   Read more ...
