Beautiful spring day in Minakami this morning. Blue skies as far as the eye can see, warm temperatures and no wind. This looks to be the weather for the next few days. Though Wednesday could be a return to the rain again. Still two lifts open up the top until the end of Golden Week with the other lift open to sightseers. Plenty of cars heading up to Tenjin this morning.
Another clear day today. Not quite a blue and an hazy kind of look to things this morning in Niseko. There's more of a wind this morning though which has been affecting some lifts early on in the morning.
All lifts moving as normal at Grand Hirafu after a bit of a later than planned start due to strong winds up top.
Of course today seems Niseko Village open again for the last week of the season and a bit earlier on the Niseko Gondola was moving but the top Wonderland chair on hold due to wind. Over at Annupuri the top Jumbo lift was also on standby - if conditions improve there we can expect them to open up quickly, though the forecast does seem to be saying that we can expect the wind to be with us at least into the afternoon. Just keep it in mind.
Tomorrow should see more sun and a bit less windy conditions, so hopefully everywhere that plans to be open will be able to.
Current lift operations (29th April 2012 @ 8:30am):
Grand Hirafu: Ace Quad Lift No2 King Hooded Triple Lift #3 King Lift #4 The Hirafu Gondola open on 29th, 30th April, and also from 3rd May until 6th May.
Annupuri: Annupuri Gondola Jumbo No1 quad Jumbo No2 pair Jumbo No4 pair [STANDBY DUE TO WIND]
Niseko Village: Gondola Wonderland lift [STANDBY DUE TO WIND]
Grand Hirafu, Annupuri and Niseko Village plan to be open until 6th May. The Hanazono area is now closed.
It's more of the same here today early on. The sun is out and we have clear skies and going to warm up again. Yesterday was really quite warm, almost hot, in town and today will take that even further perhaps with a high of 26C likely. Funny when you think there's still well over 2m of snow up top and people skiing and snowboarding!
And.... it should be sunny tomorrow as well - perhaps not quite as warm.

Temperatures have plummeted through the afternoon hours as a passing rainstorm sweeps through the area. We hit a high of 22 at noon today, but we're already headed back down to the single digits. We saw a lot of rain throughout the area today, but it was very Spring-showery like with plenty of breaks between downpours. The good news that it looks like the rain is over for the next several days, so we should see a beautiful start to Golden Week. As tomorrow is a holiday for many people across Japan, you can expect quite a few people to be out there taking advantage of one of the few places you can still ski a whole mountain from top to bottom this late in the season.
Here's the latest piste information for Furano Ski Resort.
