This ia a bit more like it!
Yesterday ended up mild and sunny but temperatures dropped later in the day and it got cold.
There is some snow on the ground this morning after it started falling last night, and it is still snowing now with a fairly strong wind blowing around as well. It seems the forecast is for snowfall to ease off later today but hopefully resume sometime tomorrow.
There is not enough snow to get the lifts moving just at the moment - but look to an opening of some upper slopes before the full mountain opens...more snow up there and all that.
Niseko Grand Hirafu resort this morning reports 10cm at base and 40cm up top.
Niseko Grand Hirafu and Niseko Annupuri are on standby to open as quickly as possible, with Niseko Village planning to open on Tuesday and Hanazono on Saturday.
I will bring you the latest information tomorrow.
Planned opening dates for the Niseko resorts:
Niseko Grand Hirafu: as soon as there's enough snow Niseko Annupuri: as soon as there's enough snow Niseko Village: Tuesday 1st December Niseko HANAZONO: Saturday 5th December
'Nighta' should be starting on Saturday 12th December Read more ...

Morning from Hakuba.
Soon after the report went up yesterday I heard that Tsugaike Kogen was also opening up - for what they are calling pre-open! - so from yesterday we had four of the big resorts in the valley starting their season. In the big picture of course it is very limited but all the same, turns to be had. And there were a fair few people willing to try them out as well. It's good to have the ski lifts moving again. Hakuba is great in other seasons of course, but for me there's just nothing like winter.
OK so back to yesterday. Snowing on the mountain - reports of around 10cm new up there yesterday - though it was a bit sleety and wet down in the village unfortunately which kind of washed away a bit (just a bit) of the enthusiasm of some of us not able to be riding the lifts to higher areas.
It is cloudy down here at the moment this morning with a high of about 5 degrees expected later, the last of this current snowfall easing off with the upper areas of the mountains covered in cloud. Then we have some sun likely tomorrow with slightly warmer temperatures expected too. Not too much please.
Can't say that large amount of snowfall is expected over the next few days, but looking towards the end of the week a cold front laden with snow looks like it might be about to arrive.
In the meantime, below is the information available this morning. As I said yesterday please remember that things can change quickly and it's best to see the official resort info if you plan on going at this early stage. I'll do my best to bring you the latest and keep you informed with regards to resorts opening and lifts.

Low level fog is covering the mountains just above the base area today.
Hello everyone from Naeba.
The snow has finally started to fall and whilst there's not much sticking in the base area the mountain is definitely benefiting from a light covering. As well as this the colder conditions today mean that snow making in the base area is going ahead at full blast.
Kagura Mitsumata also has been receiving snow over the last few days with the snow mats now being supplemented with a small amount of real snow on top of them. Hopefully the rest of the ski area will begin to open up after this weekend.
Planned resort opening dates:
Naeba: Saturday 12th December Kagura (Mitsumata Ropeway): Mitsumata area now open using snow-mats and some small amounts of natural snow Kagura (Tashiro Ropeway): Saturday 12th December
Yesterday was a cold day and wet too, though it was snowing higher up which brings me to the news of the day...
Kagura has opened the lower part of it's main course this morning -- 600m of it with a width of 20-30m. The snow-mat fun over at Mitsumata remains open but I would expect most people are going to be seeking out the real snow from today.
The Kagura Number 1 Romance pair lift is running with of course the Kagura Gondola taking you from Mitsumata up to the main Kagura area.
Good to see Kagura opening up, even though it is still limited.
Forecast? It is still a bit wet with light rain falling just now but today looks like clear up later on and then sunny clearer skies are forecast for the day tomorrow in the region. It will be warmer as well with temps likely to rise above 10 degrees in town. Fingers crossed it will at least keep cold up there at Kagura.
The next potentially decent snowfall is likely at towards the end of the coming week.
Planned opening dates for resorts in Yuzawa Town and Minamiuonuma City (by date):
Currently part open: Kagura (Mitsumata) - lower part of the main Kagura area (real snow) and snow mats helping things along at Mitsumata
