Sunny & warm
We are back into cooler temperatures today. Conditions are cloudy with very light snow showers. Unless the rate of precipitation picks up there will only be minimal build up on the ground. The good news is that the cold conditions will continue throughout the week with continuing snow showers. The warmth we have had combined with the return to cold means that there is now a good solid base to build on. Read more ...

Overcast, upper mountains obscured
The milder conditions continue this morning, but there's much more cloud around early on than there was yesterday.
A high of around 10 degrees is forecast for the day today so not quite as warm as yesterday and things should get colder tomorrow and Friday as well - but perhaps not quite as cold as we would all like!
There seems little chance of snow in the village into next week with rain likely over the weekend. That will likely be snow up on the (upper) slopes though and so fingers crossed for those runs to re-open once again sooner rather than later.
The hiking and mountain biking trails are still sweet though if that's your thing while you are waiting for the snow - a good chance to get those pre-season legs working for training for powder days. Read more ...

Awoke this morning early expecting snow but was disappointed not to see anything at 7am based on yesterdays report, by the time i left for work at 8am the snow had just started falling down in Kutchan and by the time I got into work there was already 5 cm on the ground and big fat flakes falling. Since then it seems to have been getting heavier and is forecast to keep snowing through the day.
Temperatures are due to keep falling as we approach the weekend with heavy snow Friday and pretty constant daily snow through until early next week with no other warming periods (hopefully!)
Hello and welcome back to Madarao Now - hope your summer went well. It was a fine summer here - while it got hot in the middle of it all even up here, it was certainly more comfortable than down in the city, so quite a lot of people visited Madarao to escape the heat and humidity.
The autumn colours were good this year as well and actually autumn seems to have felt quite long this time round. It almost feels a bit like autumn still these last few days actually as we have had a mild week or so. Before this current mild spell we did get a sprinkling of snow on the mountain and there have been a few cold snaps.
Having said that it is a little colder this morning - about 6 degrees at the moment - and temperatures are due to drop further later on in the day. Cloud is covering the mountain at the moment so not much to see. We might even get another dusting of snow overnight but nothing significant. After that it looks like a mix of rain/snow into early next week.
Madarao plans to have a 'Pre-Open' opening on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December. Special one day lift tickets will be 500 yen on Saturday and 1,100 yen on Sunday.
After that the main season is due to kick off on Friday 16th December. Read more ...

Cloud, spot of rain
It's all very cloudy this morning in the area. Low cloud covering the mountains and just now a few spots of rain beginning to fall in town.
Kagura is reporting a temperature of 3 degrees and down here in town it is now 8 degrees, so quite mild. There's a bit of a howling wind starting up as well, so a general feeling of changing conditions at the moment.
Starting tonight upper slopes have a chance of seeing some new snow - just a bit - but we are forecast to see a fair bit of rain in town over the next few days and over the weekend.
