Early report again for the second-to-the-last-day for most of the Myoko area resorts. Big cross-country race, and your truly is sitting about 1.5 kilometers out there on the course to check that the kids are all passing through properly. A mea culpa: it was calm early in the morning, but we had a pretty steady north wind through the day (as we found out, again, sitting out there in the open). That wind also released huge green clouds of pollen from the sugi trees. Lots of runny knots and itchy eyes out there.
Warmer today and the prediction on wind is in fact calm. All the reports below are from yesterday, except for Lotte Arai which updates regularly (although not on the lifts). Add a couple of degrees, maybe; keep the snow about where these are, and you’ll be good. T
Tomorrow I’ll report at a more normal time, and try to sum up this unusual season.
Lotte Arai Resort: 370cm, 1.2°; Mamushigaeshi, Exciter and Discovery closed (weren’t some of these permanently closed?); Myoko Long Run Upper partially open; Funaishi-zawa, Happy Place and Benzaku-zawa open in the avalanche-controlled areas; closing May 6
It is the last day of March and the last weekend of the ski season for a number of ski resorts.
Yesterday was fine weather though a fair few clouds gathering in the afternoon. This morning the sun remains out and there are clear skies above. It's going to be a little warmer than yesterday, and warmer still tomorrow.
Snow around town base areas continues to disappear with more and more patches of ground now appearing on lower slopes. It depends on the resort, but generally snow cover in higher areas remains very good.

More fine weather conditions this Saturday morning. A bit chilly overnight but it will be warming up again during the day and the next few. Though I see on forecasts we might expect some precipitation overnight. Local Yahoo says snow even which is interesting. I'm thinking that might be optimistic. But hey, 'March Madness' indeed! ;)
Hirafu is reporting some wind but it feels pretty calm down here.
Saturday 31st March 2018
Resort specific information (operations subject to change):
Can you believe it is already the last day of March?
Once again, it's clear skies and sun. It feels cooler this morning but we should expect high temps rising to just over 10C later on in the day.
One thing worth mentioning. I am lucky but some of my friends are starting to have a hard time with hay fever. If you are a sufferer, come prepared. Those masks are worth investing in!
General resort operations information from 2nd April until 6th May:
The Gondola will be open from 8:10am daily; The Number 1 car park will be free daily; There will be no village shuttle bus between 2nd April and 27th April; A resort shuttle bus may operate between Hikage and Nagasaka (Number 1 car park) depending on snow conditions.

And.... more blue skies and sunshine on this last morning of March. What a month it has been!
Fairly low temps overnight and so perhaps some icy conditions at the start of the day but it should soften up pretty sharpish.
The sunny conditions will continue into early next week. From Monday, we will be left with just Happo-one, Goryu, 47 and Tsugaike Kogen open and they will all battle on intending to remain open until early May.
Ski resort information on Saturday 31st March 2018 (at time of writing):
Operating lifts: - Lifts should be operating as planned
Courses open: - Base areas apart from Nakiyama are now closed - For access to the base areas, ski down to Nakiyama or the Gondola areas via the Risen Slalom course (or take the Gondola lift or Kitaone Sakka quad lift) - Large area of upper mountain remains open
I know this is getting really repetitive, but once again it is clear and sunny. It was definitely colder overnight but the sun will warm things up as the day goes on. It will be getting warmer over the next few days.
Tomorrow is the last day of the season for a number of ski resorts around Shiga Kogen so from Monday things will be scaled down.
The next Shiga Kogen Now report will be on Monday and after that I will do my best to post new reports a few times week until the end of the season.
Planned closing date information for the ski areas around Shiga Kogen. Note that all are subject to change.
