Niseko Now!

Monday 4th February 2008, 8:51am
Weather conditions: Overcast and Sunny.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It was a beautiful day yesterday with lots of sunshine and great conditions. Everybody enjoyed skiing and boarding all over the mountain. By lunch, just about every part of the mountain was tracked out and the warm weather turned the powder into heavy snow. The best skiing was definitly early in the morning.

About 2 centimeters has fallen in the Village over night with the same amount at the top of the mountain. The groomed runs will have the best skiing and boarding with all lifts open today. There are two big highs on both sides of Niseko so it will be interesting to see how soon the big snow falls happen again.   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --

Yesterday the snow only accumulated to 25 cm at the valley level but Tenjin received over 40cm. Today there is broken cloud covering the valley with a very light breeze from the South West. A few flakes fell this morning but have since disappeared.

The outlook for tomorrow is for cloudy weather with some fine patches expected and snow in the afternoon. Wednesday will be similar with more clouds and snow

Many sluffs witnessed in steeper terrain over the weekend, mostly on the top 30-40 cm. There are also some weak layers appearing further down in the pack that should be watched closely over the next few days.

Yuzawa Now!

Monday 4th February 2008, 9:05am
Weather conditions: Cloud, sun (snow?) -- changeable!
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Well this morning although we were expecting snow, it is just cloudy - and quite bright with it... the sun is out at the moment and while there is still a lot of cloud around it looks like it might be a fine day. But, like I said the forecast is snow, so it could really go either way right now.

While we have had a sprinkling of snow down at town level, Kagura resort is reporting 5-10cm of fresh snow, so conditions up there should be really good this morning.

The thermometer is on -2 at the moment and it will probably stay chilly for the rest of the day.

At the moment the forecast for tomorrow is sun early on followed by more snow.

PM update:

It has been a mild day here today, with the temperature hovering around and just above 0 degrees with virtually no wind. It has been rather changeable as well... this morning there were some blue skies and sun for a short while, but it clouded over as the day progressed and there has even been some very light snow falling at times later in the day. From now until tomorrow morning the official forecast is for between 0cm and 5cm of new snow.

Tomorrow may well be another fine day with sun forecast for the morning with snow moving in later in the day.    Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Monday 4th February 2008, 9:57am
Weather conditions: Cloud, sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Snow was forecast for today, but right now it is looking likely that today will be a fine day. The is a lot of while cloud around, but there's also increasingly more blue skies showing and right now the sun is out. It is a fine day! We're still down for snow on the forecast so you never know, it might cloud over and start falling again....

There's only a slight breeze this morning and the temperatures aren't of the biting cold kind and so with that fresh snow of late it is a good morning to be out on the slopes of Shiga Kogen.

Night operations planned at the following resort areas today:

- Ichinose Family
- Ichinose Diamond   Read more ...

Furano Now!

Monday 4th February 2008, 10:02am
Weather conditions: bright sunny morning, blue skies, clear view of the Tokachidake range.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A beautiful morning this morning. Blue skies, bright sunshine and crisp snow. A dusting overnight is a change to the last few days of heavy snowfall.

Yesterdays snow was again superb. 25cm of fresh on course on Zaira in the Furano zone was fantastic for all to experience the light snow that Furano has to offer on course, especially beginners as the Zaira course is very easily accessible. The Challenge course was chopped up early as being s Sunday there were more people on the mountain than normal.

Yesterdays Banba-jin (pulling of the horse on a sleigh) was a unique spectacle in Kitanomine car park. Congratulations to those who saw and or experienced the event.

Naeba Now!

Monday 4th February 2008, 10:04am
Weather conditions: Blue skies with cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Blue sunny skies this morning, with high, sporadic clouds racing across the sky. These fast moving clouds seem to create an awareness of how the mountains are cutting through the heavens as our earth rotates.

The temperature is around -2 again and theres a bit of a chilly breeze. Things are now quite around the village as owners and workers pick up the pieces from the weekend.

Hakuba Now!

Monday 4th February 2008, 11:05am
Weather conditions: Broken cloud and sunny patches
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
What an amazing feeling waking to blue skies and fresh snow in Hakuba this morning. After yesterdays 20 cm snow fall of light powder the skies have cleared and the powder hounds will be out in force on the Hakuba Resorts today. There is no wind to speak of and temperatures are cool so all that great powder snow will stay light and fluffy on all aspects well in to the day. Groomed courses will be soft and fast this morning. Make sure you have -8 wax or graphite wax on your boards for the best ride.

Later in the day we should see it start to cloud up and we will most probably receive some more snow from the afternoon as flurries start again. This does not look like we will be receiving as much snow as yesterday but every little bit counts.

Avalanche Warning!

You may have already heard of the avalanche that happened at Tsugaike Ski area. This was a slide on the resort that slid from permanently closed terrain and ran across the cat track that was also closed do to avalanche hazard. There was a group of beginner snow boarders that ducked the rope into the cat track and was struck by the size 2.5 slide on the cat track. All people were found however 2 of the victims were taken off the mountain yesterday in comas and all reports state that they are still in coma.

The lesson to be learned here is that signs posting avalanche danger mean it! Stay out of these areas as it is not just yourselves that you are putting at risk it is others on slopes below as well.

Avalanche Hazard as of Feb 4th:

Alpine: High

Tree line: High

Below Tree Line: Considerable

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Monday 4th February 2008, 11:52am
Weather conditions: Fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
No new snow overnight in Nozawa, and it has only fallen this morning for a brief few minutes. The sun is out now and many people around town are taking the opportunity to clear snow from roofs and around their houses. Steady but light snow fell for most of the day yesterday, but not nearly enough to fill the insatiable thirst for powder we developed during last weeks super dump.

The weather forecast gets worse every time I look at it, we are now expecting light snow until Wednesday morning and then 'fine' weather for a while.    Read more ...
