Yuzawa Now!

Thursday 7th December 2006, 13:15pm
Weather conditions: Cloud, sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Sorry for the late report, there were some network issues that prevented us from posting.

Anyway, after a cold and misty start to the day the sun is now out and it has warmed up a fair bit - about +7 degrees at the moment and the snow in the town melting. It looks like we are set for cloud/rain tomorrow so we can just hope that the temperatures take a dip overnight and for that rain to turn into snow...

Lifts currently operating at the Kagura resort are the Number 1 Quad, Kagura Gondola, Mitsumata Number 3 Romance lift, Mitsumata Number 1 Quad, Mitsumata Ropeway and Operations at Naeba are unchanged where the snow at the bottom of the slopes is now getting rather thin on the ground.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Thursday 7th December 2006, 13:20pm
Weather conditions: partly cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Hakuba is currently under partly cloud skies and it is 6 degrees celsius at the base. No new snow to report overnight in Hakuba, but still some great early season skiing on Happo-One, Goryu, and Hakuba 47. Wind is light from the north and visibility is great. It is a good mid-week day for getting the kinks outta the old system and practicing for the season.

Tsugaike, Hakuba Cortina, Hakuba Norikura, Hakuba Iwatake and Hakuba San Alpina are all on standby and plan to open this coming Saturday.

3 major fracture lines approximately 2 metres deep could be seen tow days ago on Shirouma Dake in at the top of Hakuba Sawa bowl, Hakuba Shakushi Dake North ridge and Goryu dake. All fractures are on the South Eastern aspect, recent lee slopes, that were heavily loaded over the last 3 days. Most probably came down with the first light this morning. Overnight there was a surface frost that formed with the clear cool weather that may cause problems on shaded aspects come the next snow fall and the warm solar radiation of today will no doubt cause a sun crust to form on southerly aspects that may also cause instability in the consecutive snow falls. Watch out around rocky outcrops during early season as there will be a lot of instability around these areas due to large temperature gradients and rapid warming on the sunny days.   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Thursday 7th December 2006, 13:42pm
Weather conditions: Cloud, sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
This morning it was foggy early on but that soon cleared up and we are seeing fine weather at the moment with the sun out and temperatures hovering around 3 degrees. It is looking unlikely that we can expect any decent snowfall before the weekend, with cloud/rain forecast for tomorrow - a chance that might translate into snow high up. Fingers crossed. We will bring you more on weekend plans tomorrow.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Thursday 7th December 2006, 14:11pm
Weather conditions: Cloudy and lightly snowing
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A warm front has been moving through this morning and has been accompanied by plenty of snow, although it's a little wetter than what we normally get here. At least it's not rain! The cold front should move through later tonight and we should get plenty more powder by tomorrow. I've heard that night skiing is set to start this coming weekend meaning if you're fit enough you can ski for over 12 hours.   Read more ...

Minakami Now!

Thursday 7th December 2006, 15:58pm
Weather conditions: Overcast.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Overcast day with the whole sky covered by Alto-Stratus clouds. Warm midday temparatues at the village level of around 12 deg C and 5 deg C around 1600m.

There is a warm front pushing up from Southern Japan which is likely to bring rain to low levels from tomorrow. Hopefully this will bring snow above 1200m.

Houdaigi was planning on opening this comming weekend (Dec 9th) but has now changed the opening date to Dec 16th.

The forecast for the next week does not look too promising for snow, with further predictions of warm temparatures.
