Lots of cloud
Good morning from Yuzawa and welcome back to the Yuzawa Now reports for the 2019-2020 season.
It has been a mixed bunch of weather since May, but it is now getting rather chilly in the evenings and it looks like there was a sprinkling of snow up on the top area of Kagura last night. It's always great to see those first dustings.
Kagura (via the Mitsumata Ropeway) plans to open this season on Saturday 23rd November, so we are now just over two weeks away from those first tracks. (Hopefully). They had a pre-opening safety ceremony the other day so are gearing up for the season.
Two bits of news to share with you this Friday morning:
- The downhill course from the Mitsumata area down to Mitsumata car park at the Kagura resort will not be opening this season. The reason is due to damage inflicted by the torrential rains during that powerful typhoon last month. They tried to fix it up but apparently there has not been enough time to get it sorted.
- The Kandatsu Kogen resort has re-named itself. The new name is 'Kandatsu Snow Resort' and it looks like there will be a few changes due over there. More on that later.
We'll be back with another Yuzawa Now report next week with news on all the planned opening dates for ski resorts around Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma.
Just a quick note today to make note of snowfall down to the village areas here in Niseko. Hurray! It is always exciting to see it arrive, even if it is just a little bit... though we may well see more overnight tonight.
I will keep you posted over the coming few weeks as the planned opening dates approach.
Night time operations will be available at the Niseko Grand Hirafu, Niseko Village and Niseko Annupuri resorts. That is planned daily between Wednesday 11th December 2019 and Sunday 22nd March 2020.
Lift ticket prices depend on the period - Early, Regular or Spring Season:
Early Season = Saturday 23rd November 2019 until Tuesday 10th December 2019 Regular Season = Wednesday 11th December 2019 until Sunday 22nd March 2020 Spring Season = Monday 23rd March 2020 until Wednesday 6th May 2020

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Friday 8th November 2019, 15:06pm
Cloud, some blue sky
Greetings, Nozawa fans!
It's November and so it is time to start getting really excited about the upcoming winter season (if you weren't already!).... especially as there is a definite frosted look to some of the trees up on the top of the mountain today (see below).
Down here towards the village area we are still enjoying lovely autumn foliage.
You might have heard about that nasty typhoon last month that created some real problems in many areas of Japan. There was some serious flooding fairly close by as well, with parts of northern Nagano making the news. We wish everyone affected all the very best as they pick up the pieces and try to get back to normal.
Back here in Nozawa and the ski resort is busily preparing to open on Saturday 23rd November. If you look back at our archive reports (links below), you'll see how the early season has shaped up in previous years. Usually it's just the top area that opens up first.
Let's see how this year goes. Fingers crossed we'll get lots of snow early on enabling the resort to open up on time and fully open as quickly as possible.
I'll keep you informed as we approach opening date. Once Nozawa opens I plan to post reports every morning. As always, marketing/promotion talk and cheesy stuff is strictly not allowed - you'll only hear about what I see and experience, whether it's good or bad. Hopefully good! :)
